You are welcome to visit anytime.

We are getting closer -- extrusions were approved yesterday, and placed on order.

:party::party::party:

Please note the HV car controller will be OPTO coupled -- no BEC.

snellemin 02.24.2010 10:40 AM

That's good news.

So, a software upgrade only is not possible. Too bad, I have an HV160 that could have been used. Anyway, looking forward to trying one of the new ESC's on a 12S Baja.

When are you going to make a HV BEC? Would be a shame to have Castle motor and ESC, but have to use another BEC.

Guess I'll be dusting off my Western Robotics HV BEC (60v and 3.5A)...

*cough* CCBEC PRO *cough*

BrianG 02.24.2010 02:26 PM

But I thought the CC BEC Pro was only rated for 6s when used in cars according to the manual? I guess I'm assuming the HV ESCs will have electric braking and the spikes they produce. If they don't and mech brakes are used, the voltage limit of the CC BEC is irrelevant.

Speaking of brake spikes; any idea when/if a capacitor/TVS module will be available for sale? I know this was mentioned once before, but haven't heard anything since.

Thomas Porfert 02.24.2010 04:35 PM

You can just tap the BEC Pro off one of the 6s packs..unless you plan on running a 12s cinder block sized battery. The BEC can tap off just one of the battery leads and will only receive 22.2 volts. We have a wiring diagram on the BEC page that covers this.

http://www.castlecreations.com/products/ccbec.html#

It's under CC BEC Resources; CC BEC Multi-pack Installation

It says it's for the regular BEC only, but it will work just fine with the BEC Pro.

True-- but any other BEC will still have the same issues with braking. We just are careful to be conservative with our ratings -- not everyone else is.

On the Cap/TVS module -- I just got samples recently -- but haven't built up the module yet. I'll keep you posted when testing starts.

Thanx!

Patrick

The only issue with that arrangement is the pack with the BEC will be drained slightly more than the other pack. It won't be a lot to be sure, but if the packs are charged/balanced in series, it can take longer to balance that difference out. Not to mention the LVC is not as accurate.

Yeah, that's true. I had not heard, but I was assuming the lower voltage when used in cars was in fact due to the braking spike.

I presume that adding a few TVS devices would make the CCBEC Pro rated higher when using elec braking in cars?

As far the modules themselves go, I was assuming you would just use whatever TVS you use on the MMM and the caps you use on the MMPro. Of course, higher rated versions would need to be used on the HV ESCs...

Thank you. I hope my design can be built even if it cost more to get done by you. I'll probably just has you do a few thousand units of various sizes and keep them all for myself to see how long it'll take everyone else to come up with the same design . I'll see how this summer will be and if I can take some time off. It's usually the time where I work the most to establish more contracts.

jocktheglide 02.25.2010 09:38 AM

so castle I could buy the phoenix ice 200 and put that in my car with 8s? all for 350 bucks?

Electric Eel 03.03.2010 03:49 PM

How about some pictures of the new extrusions. Any release updates?
