In response to the quote above; I don't mind a company waiting to put out a quality product. What I have a problem with is a company saying a product will be out "soon" for over a year. IMO, CC should take a page from Traxxas' book and not say anything until it's ready. Either that, or define what "soon" really means...
Circumstances are a bit different between CC and Traxxas. Traxxas is probably a much larger company, with a bunch of guys ready to test new things. CC, being smaller, goes to the public to test things (beta stage). Because of this the public will know about the product further away from the actual release. Of course, this doesn't count for the long wait we've experienced (which has exceeded 1 1/2 years at this point).
That is true I guess. OK then, CC should at least define what "soon" means. To the people waiting for it, soon is 3-4 months max. And what is the deal with them waiting for the motor to make bundles? They don't bundle motors with anything but their car line of ESCs. I realize they want to have a bundle for an out-of-the-box system, but enough already! Just release the dang ESCs before people get tired of waiting and go with something else!
I totally agree with brian. sad thing is more companies seem to be doing the "coming soon" crap though.

Exactly. CC better get on the ball before the ball gets taken from them...
The thing is if traxxas does it. It will have nice easy mounting.
That would be a plus over some others. |
I mentioned in a previous post in this thread about Traxxas losing a lot of MT business by not doing a E revo within the year they had the chance. I see the same possibility with Castle and Tekin by letting traxxas get a foot in the door
i agree 100 percent. i have seen the comming soon page for over a year. it is what sparked my intrest for an electric revo. but now i am tired of waiting i am going to go with a quark 125 and a 8 or 9 XL motor.
Have to agree- I would happily just have the MMM speedo and find my own motor, unless the MMM is very fussy so thats why they want to wait until they find/build a motor that works well & doesnt cog or over heat.
Heck, if you think about it, all they need to do is alter one of their big 200/300amp boat/plane speedos so it has reverse (cant be that hard surely?), then you could use it with the BIG boat/plane motors the esc is designed to work with, stick it in your truck, and a good time would be had by all..... |
man it dont matter for me. i will still have to save my pennies till sroung christmas, so maby it will be out bu then, or the big velion
I hope that they (Castle) got the hint with the MM and makes the MMM compatible with other makes of motors. If it turns out to run well only with Castle's motors, I might just have to pass on the MMM. I know that Castle is working on a nice motor for the MMM system, but I doubt that it will be as good as a Neu.
From what I heard, they (CC) were trying to work a deal with Neu to use their motors as part of the package. So, even if CC doesn't use a Neu-based package, they should at least work with the Neus. They HAVE to know people are going to use large motors on the MMM since it is specifically designed for MT and other like-sized vehicles.
Besides, I'm sure CC is aware of the issue with Neu/MM and designed the software accordingly (or so we hope). |
I know for a fact that Castle was testing with the NEU's and wanted to either have NEU OEM the motors for them or they wanted to design a motor similar to the NEU's. I heard that from Shawn Palmer in summer '06 and another factory engineer I talked with in person at the iHobby show in October '06.
I just wish they'd get the motor done.....they tolsd me the esc was in final testing in fall and was basically a "double" Mamba Maxx, ie. they stacked the FETs for double the capacity. |
I for one am tired of waiting, I just ordered a couple quark 125's for my MT's and might consider a MMM in the future. I need a strong esc now, Sorry Castle
I think I am about to do the same thing. My mamba just died and I want something that can run my nue that has been sitting here for a few weeks. Just hope it runs cool enough.
i feel like an idjet, but what is FET's?
It stands for Field Effect Transistor, it essentially switches on and off to deliver power. thats all i really know about them, others will chime in soon and tell how it all works if you want (honestly I would like to read that myself)
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Like their name implies, they control the flow of current through the source and drain terminals (the high current areas) by a field created by applying voltage to the gate. Think of them like a large fire hose. The valve is the gate. The source and drain are in the input and output. You can control a LOT of water flow with relatively little force on the valve. Same thing with a FET.
ok that explanes a lot, the first few times i saw"FET" i thought that every one was makeing up words. but i guess you say it , F E Ts....not fets
Yeah, it is F - E - T, but most people just say "fet" in conversation.
Most of the time, when you see letters in all caps, it means it is an acronym. |
Just like ESC. Haha!:)
And Lipo = Lithium Polymer. How do you guys pronounce Lipo; Lie-po or Lip-o?
I've always said Lie-Poe, and cringe when I hear Lip-o. And I say fet, not F-E-T.
Ditto & ditto. Lipo is something for lazy rich people who cant be bothered to exercise....
Fet is sort of an anagram Like roar is for the racing organisation
li poly
I usually say lie-po

LE-POE seems easier, though. Like anti( ANTE) and anti( ANTAI).
I say Lie Poe as well, and I usually say fet or Mosfet. I don't think I've ever said F E T.
I do hope Castle Hurries up. However, I must say Traxxas isn't the greatest about release times either. Their CVD's were supposed to be out like 2 months ago and I think they are still not out yet. |
I say Lie-Poe, and F-E-T personally. I suppose it's whatever sounds right to you. Like the way I call a Revo "Rev-O", unlike the way many people pronounce it "Ree-Vo". It's strange how you can pronounc different stuff lol.
But back to the topic...come on Castle. Get that ESC out the door! :) |
I am not really in a hurry for them to come out with one anymore, as I have just bought a MM esc yesterday and about to buy a motor, battery, and some other stuff today, lol.
Which motor are you getting to run with that MM?
I actually have the full list in my topic in the brushless section... probably 9xl, but I had one last question there before I buy it all.
Here: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...?t=6972&page=2 |
Yeah, I need a MMM ESC too, otherwise my beefy emaxx is just going to look like a blingmobile!
When did you build an Emaxx Sleeb? Link/photos?
Has anyone noticed, when Castle chimes in and talks about the MMM, we get about 5 pages of posts. but after a while it dies down, Like they are stringing us along
no flame or bashing, just an observation |
True; I think they are like girls- talk to you, get your hopes up...... then you find out they have a boyfriend, or they just wanted a bit of attention. That said, on the Traxxas forums someone spoke to a CC rep at some show and they said the MMM would be ready in two months; that was a month ago.... We will just have to wait and see if anything appears.
