Why not modeling clay? Start by using wood to take up most of the volume, then put the modeling clay on top of that and work into the shape. This is basically how they do clay models of full size vehicles. Probably easiest to do details, etc. with.

Then you can do a two-step mold on top of that, then use that mold to produce your final plug for use in the vacuum forming process.

This is what I've been toying with myself as I need to widen a SC8 body to fit my RC8T.

Hey that's a good idea, my wife suggested clay but I figured it would cost to much but using it on top of wood saves money.
I'll look into how much clay I'll need an the cost.
at the least I can go pick up some soft wood and start on my form.

My biggest problem is the vacuum forming. Thinnk that the sheet of Lexan I'll need is too big for an oven; I've found a fairly local company that does short runs with vacuum forming so I'm going to give them a call and see what the costs of doing a couple of shells will be.

you can also use a BBQ or pick up a cheap-o small electric typ oven at wallmart.

Polycarb takes 370*

I just fully understood how AWESOME and unique your motor mounting is!! I've been thinking about trying to find a way to mount a motor flat against a Maxx chassis on a CD like a 1/8th scale truggy. I love it!! Tell me more about your steering its so cool! That was before now the one thing that was keeping me front bolting my bulks and suspension to a truggy chassis. lol

Hey thank you, although I should make a motor mount from aluminum and not Delrin.
not much to say about the steering.
I used HPI 1/8 steering towers, from that yellow corvette car, the height was right for my chassis upper rails and was 3mm screws.

I am now working on Front and rear sway bar system
using OFNA and MUgen parts.
so now The Rev-Osi is Emaxx, Revo, LOSI 8, HPI, MUgen and OFNA

UPDATES:
I tossed out the rear spool and put in 7k oil.
painted the wheels silver
Still working on the Sway bar system.

Took it for a spin and it drove really well  until one rear axle shaft split open then the front wheels were unloading like crazy !

SO i need some stronger shafts as I see the joints are getting sloppy as well

I swear I will get video , I got a couple minutes of run time Wed. but the rear axle shaft broke on me.
It was funny to see the front wheels unload under full power the Hard 1/5 wheels actually started to baloon in the middle.

Just picked up a new stock shaft and as soon as it stops Raining as is Dry I'll some video.

Thought about going to Traxxas Summit shafts they are beefy with metal CV joints.

??? ARE CV joints stronger or Hole up better than UNiversals ?

thanks

SpeedAssault 02.06.2010 10:20 PM

Ok, I took it for a run , guess about 15 minutes worth, still Plenty of battery left, it was getting dark. It's been raining here but today dried things up fairly well but still slick, had a spin collision with the curb, broke 3mm shock bolt, battery got a little scratch, (I'm praying it didn't hit anything bad) also had a spin out and went up driveway and flipped over and kept rolling on the wheels.
No more breaks so things are looking good.
It's a LOUD scary Street Rocket !

It was a blast to drive, I can even DRIFT IT :mdr:
Handling is good even without rear sway bar.

No more driving until I build a Solid battery box .
I'll get that done and have the wifey do video

magman 02.06.2010 10:23 PM

Car came out very nice. very creative.

SpeedAssault 02.22.2010 11:21 PM

VIDEO FINALLY, just before the car Killed my radio
not the greatest video, but will get a high speed video later when I know the car will come back

THE steel spur, pinion and stainless driveshafts are causing huge EMF to my am radio, so after this video I cant use my radio for it anymore

Just in time
gonna have to build my 2.4 6ch pistol radio next.

What's_nitro? 02.23.2010 12:06 AM

Hey nice quasi-drift in the second vid... I can't believe it runs at all with an AM radio...wow! Definitely get that 2.4 in there before it tries to burrow under a car tire.

Overdriven 02.23.2010 09:38 PM

I love this thing. Makes me want to build a 1/5 rally car out my leftover maxx parts.

SpeedAssault 02.24.2010 07:47 PM

lol
thank Driven
If I find a large dirt lot I may swap it over to offroad

I built a massive battery box with high density padding.
I'll post pics.
