i dont listen to descriptions usually. the specs say it is 20" and the one i linked is 20.5" so very little difference

Awesome project you've got going there dude!!
|
Thanks!
I'll try and see if I can finish the drawings tonight. School is starting up again soon for me, and I've been trying to squeeze every last bit out of my summer. |
Update! (finally )
I finished the basic drawings of my new design. It took way too long, probably because I changed my mind a few times.. again (this is the last one, I promise! I'm fully satisfied with this). I have to change/add a few things (front kickup being one of them), but this is the basic layout of everything. I still have to wait on a few things in the mail before I can add the radio tray, brake mounts, rollbar, and a few other things. I will also take out much of the "TVP"s once I get all of that other stuff done, to significantly lighten it all up. There's more good news: It will end up being only 10mm longer than an FLM kit with this design, and I'm sure the CoG will also be much lower. :yipi: Without further ado, here are the pics! I know I do! |
That looks damn nice!!
Nice project! |
...very cool...i DO like it...so did you get your 2008 resolution done? :D As the first post of 2009 I ma looking forward to hearing how its going...Thanks for all the work you have out into it and thanks for letting us watch as you go along...An education and an inspiration all at the same time...Great stuff...

This project is not done but I am determined to finish it very soon, I have the final design in the works and will hopefully have the drawings done in a week. This new design is definitely the last one, and also the best IMO. It is still going to be run on 12s with the NEU 1527 2D and will have the same wheelbase as the Savage XL. It will be overkill. It will probably kill someone. It's out of my hands now.
Question though, does anyone think that the slipperential will be able to handle this power? I plan on using it but I'm scared... so scared. :eyes: |
The basics of the new design are done so I thought I'd post a picture of it to get some feedback, any comments, questions, or criticism are welcome! This is just the basic outline of it, I will be scrapping weight off and have to add holes and mounts and such, but you can get an idea of where I'm going with this.

Way cool. Don't you think the motor shaft is too close to the bearing holes for the CD? Or are you running a tiny spur?
|
I'm running a 46 tooth spur on the slipperential, then I'm going to be running a shaft with a 10 tooth pinion and a 15 tooth pinion on it for gear reduction, so effectively my "spur" is going to be 15 teeth. The space is measured out to accommodate a 9t pinion up to a 17t pinion, and if I need to go higher than that, I can also always change the spur to be lower as well.
Also, I have made some progress on the drawings and will post up another version tonight/tomorrow. I think I've done it right this time. :yipi: |
Here is an update for anyone that's interested. All that's left are servo mounts, radio/eLogger box, and the esc mount.

It's looking great!
The width between the TVPs, does that correlate to the bulkheads? Looks a bit narrow to match the stock chassis width. I'm interested in seeing bulkhead mounting holes put on the skids :intello: |
Thanks! And yeah they are about 10 mm narrower than the bulkhead's width, but I designed little brackets to narrow it down, they are shown on the first pic, but I had them hidden on the second one on accident. I may beef them up a little bit but I think they'll do.
|
What thickness will the brackets be?
|
They are 5mm thick where they mount to the bulks and then they extend to 10.25mm where they mount to the TVPs.
