Long winded update :)
Well here it is in all its glory.
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0406091503.jpg I had to put Outdrives and seals in my center diff, and came to find this.. a broken crosspin, Last rebuild i had noticed alot of wear on them but thought nothing of it, glad I bought some new pins from amain. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...6091603_01.jpg -Screw kit, Well worth what I paid for it, all hardened steel screws, and literaly every screw i need for the truck. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...6091542_01.jpg -wheels and tires, Hats off to AKA, the tires were immaculate from the factory, no burrs on the bead- they were perfect! Came in ziplock resealable bags Also the foams are a very stiff Closed cell type, I drilled vent holes in my rims but dont really hear air coming out when i squeeze the tire...Oh well. Nex up are the Rulux Half-ups in standard offset, also very well made- No burrs any where, or knicks or scratches. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0406091500.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...6091949_01.jpg Next up is the body... And boy is there a story behind it..... While painting my first layer of purple pearl, i left the body outside in the sun for literally 5 minutes to let the paint tack up, In that time it went from being sunny and clear to raining! Rain effed up one of my side graphics.... Secondly the tape i used is CRAP! Never use tamiya masking tape it does not stick well to lexan... you can tell where the tape was not stuck by all the bleed marks... Overall Im not too happy with the paint... http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0406092000.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...091959a_01.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0406091943.jpg Body just sitting on the truck. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0406091959.jpg |
Very nice Ben!
|
Schweet!
|
Looks great except for that paint. If you have any nitro left from your nitro days, you can use that to get the paint off the body, doesn't do anything to the lexan like other chemicals do, and IIRC Castrol Super Clean will work too.
|
Yea I wish I could without ruining the rest of the paint...
AH well, you live and learn... and I dont think it will matter that much when it sees the dirt :) |
You may think the painjob is bad but when it's outside going down the road no one will notice it.
|
Looks cool.
|
Looks good Ben!
The most important thing to remember about mistakes in paint is that a strategically placed sticker will fix it almost every time. :mdr: |
I say screw it, gives the truck character :). Added a few RCM stickers, an and aka sticker..
If anyone bitches about it they can just buy me a new body and paint it them self. |
Well more parts broken. The Castle 2200 has definately found all the flaws in my drive train. This time it was a diff output cup on my rear diff.
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0410091326.jpg I Attempted to run a hyper 7 diff output in the truck but it was too short and the dogbone would pop out with any suspension movement.. So The closest i could find were the outputs from a savage x. they claim to be hardened steel (I sure hope so) and are the same size as the stockers, so i wont have to wory about the axle popping out. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0416091906.jpg Install pics will go up tommorow. |
I plan to get mine done in the next 2 weeks as well. Very curious to see how yours turns out.
|
Mine is done aside from the rear diff.
U will love the truck, just be sure to get cnc knuckles for more steering |
Lookin good Ben!
|
Looks really good
|
Wow only took you 7 months to finish (this thread started 9/25) and then you broke it!!! Looking good Ben. Sucks about the tape issue, always use 3m fineline tape for graphics.
I will have some pics up on one of my custom paint jobs this weekend... Heheheh. |

Next you need to shave the C hubs  |
Got the new drives installed, they are a drop in replacement with a few mods.
First off the pins thta go under the large gear inside the diff are too long and need to be trimmed to fit, Bolt cutters work best- but a dremel would work. Now to the big thing.. The savage uses a dogbone with a larger diameter round end, so the matrix end was swimming in the cup side-to-side. The pin in the cen dogbone fit and was snug but the ball was too small. SInce the ball is not subjected to much load on this axis I came up with a simple fix. Took about 1/4inch rubber tubing and cut it into small-curved strips. and drilled a hole in the center for the dogbone pin to come through.effectively widening the ball end of the bone. then lubricated it with graphite powder. Seems to hold up well with no play at all. the cups are also longer then the stockers and allow for more suspension travel without the bone popping out. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0417091742.jpg Also got a modded PSU from Eovu87435ds as he is gettin a hyperion ac/dc charger. did a bit of modding to it, cleaned up wiring and mounted the swith internally for a cleaner look. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...0418091124.jpg |
Would that be my old power supply  I have a better one now :mdr:
|
You do make life hard - Just buy cen outputs...

2nd video is that a backflip at like 40 seconds?!:surprised:
EDIT: video 3 has several.:party::lol: |
Yeah my first heat was kind of trashed after I lost a wheel nut and the wheel fell off, so i decided to cut up a bit.
It was fun.. but 6s is way too much power as it stands |
Nice running there! Style points with the backflips!
