it'd be no different or harder than drilling any peice in a drill press. set the peice, set the depth stop, pull the lever. no computers or "robots" necessary.

Yea, it can be done with a drill-press, but not with a Dremel. However, I would just use a 1mm thinner bearing, heh.

HeY check this out I'm grinding the gear itself down and it seems to be working!

But on another note, I hate my dremel its nicd!!!!! Like 4 volts!! feels cheap, plasticy, like a toy! It last for like 3 mins! Takes like 3 hours to charge! AHHH! Does anybody have the lithium ion one? I lust after that thing!!! It will be mine soon! HAHAHA... LOL

RCM members are the greatest by the way.

Don't get the li-ion dremel. It is terrible. Just get a plugin one.

Howdie friend! I like the profile picture! What do you mean? Anything is better than 4v nicd!!! Have you owned it? I really like being portable.

I vote for a plug-in dremel. My wife bought me one back in 2002 and it's still working like new.

Unsullied_Spy 07.16.2009 12:53 AM

Another vote for the plug-in. I chose to get the plug-in over the battery one because it is always working when you need it, no batteries to worry about. I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that you'd get more torque out of a plug-in model as well. Mine's a 300 series and very gutless but there's no voltage drop when plugged into house current.

George16 07.16.2009 01:06 AM

Yes, you do get more torque with a plug-in. I have an inverter in my 1:1 car so no problems taking the Dremel with me anywhere.

Chadworkz 07.16.2009 01:17 AM

I love my plug-in Dremel...I also have a cordless version, but I never use it.

Another +1 for plug-in dremels. If you want portable, then get the flex-shaft adaptor, you can move around alot more with it that way. Having a battery operated one isnt worth squat diddly if it only lasts a few minutes and hasnt got much power, and who takes a dremel with them when they go bashing/racing anyway? Not many people I imagine...

Kcaz25 07.16.2009 12:22 PM

HERE is the dremel I'm talking about. But they make it sound so awesome!

HERE is the piece of junk I have now.

But maybe you guys are right about the plugin

BL_RV0 07.16.2009 02:13 PM

Yes, I have used the li-ion. It is so weak I can put my finger on the edge of the cutting wheel and stop the dremel at full speed without getting cut...

Yeah man sounds like good advice and all but I've cut myself on accident a few time with mine. And its 7.2v 20,000rpms. Maybe you left out some detail like it wasn't on or something...

what about making it a "project x"-Dremel by adding some more volts?

I did that with my old cordless screwdriver... with my girls's cordless vacuum cleaner (adding more and better nimh's) and with my acoms hayabusa by replacing batts with a crappy 3s-lipo (-->see project x).
more volts - more fun

It was on.... I think my charger may have been bad possibly, there's no way dremel would market a product that you can stop with your finger.
