That is pretty good being sensorless! I bet any of today's ESCs could do that given the right software though...
|
@alawi;
3.4V is rather normal, but since you use flightpowers you might use 3.5 in your calculations. The 4.2 you use is at no load. At full speed the voltage will be~ 3.4-3.5V per cell. |

Isn't there a law against false advertisement?
|
In legal terms, it's probably not "false advetisement" - more like "delayed advertisement". I don't recall any official word that it would be out on any definite and specific date. It's just bad marketing IMO because it just gets people mad, but whatever. People will just vote with their wallets and go elsewhere.
|
Very true Brian. I would be voting with my wallet right now if I could get the MGM here. Unfortunately my last 3 inquiries to Mike about when they'll be available are not being answered. He must be VERY busy. Anyway, I hope the MGM will be available soon.
|
I'm liking the 16016-3S. It is very smooth. I have it set up for forward/brake only. I will make some comparisson using the 40.160, MGM, MM, Actronic 120 and the VXL. The 40.160 and Actronic 120 handles higher voltage, but they are rated for 100A+. I will start a new thread with the results.
|
Nice, that would be great to see. I think I would like the 160 to go with my Neu 1515, but I might just go full force with the 224 - that thing would be sweet!
|
As soon as castle releases the monster maxx theres gonna be a flood of esc's on flea bay!
|
You really think so? From all the talk, it looks like the MMM is only going to give you more current capability, and maybe a better BEC. Most people would rather have the same current rating, but higher voltage for better efficiency.
|
It would be nice if the prices of MMs and other escs came down as a result, but only time will tell I guess.
|
And if the fabled MM/Neu fix was done...
|
...the prices would probably rise, since then no-one would want the MMM, since the MM would have all the features & compatibilty you could possibly want (unless you wanted a low kv + high voltage setup). So much for my theory.
|
By the time the "fabled" MMM actually comes out there will be probably already be multiple other escs with just as good or better features. The new MGMs for example.
If its not rated for at least 6s I am not wasting my money on it. Just run the MM, it does 5s. Castle is sitting on this WAYYYYYYYYY to long. It better be all that and a bag o' chips when/if it finally makes its apearance. |
LOL, I was just looking at when this thread started; Sep of 2006! And still nothing really new...
|
At least with Tekin they have a video of their MT setup actually working, albeit a beta version, but still. At this rate I think Lutach's esc (it is him whos having one custom made by a factory isnt it?) will be ready before the MMM- just add a neu and you're good to go.

What kind of ridiculous marketing plan advertises a product before they even have a functioning prototype. In a twisted kind of way I'm actually hoping that it sucks and the whole thing blows up in their faces. The whole thing is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. (just in case you couldn't tell.) |
Just about the ONLY thing their marketing plan does is keep the talk going, which is usually a good thing - but when the talk is negative, well...
|
If I was CC, I would just pull the plug on the MMM and apologize to everyone. In rcgroups I already posted something there telling Patrick if he is having trouble getting electronic components, I would be happy to sell him my secrets of procuring them. He is probably sitting on his desk saying, "My products are the best. I'll make them wait and when it comes out they will buy."
|
Want to hear the icing on the cake, he posted yesterday on a plane esc at RCgroups (its 1AM here), but didn't post on all the lynch mob activities (a lot of people voicing strong opinions) on the MMM threads. Is that strange to anyone else? Also, I notice that a lot of guys having troubles with their plane esc on there lately, Makes me wonder if Castle is on a downward slide. Maybe Shawn Palmer leaving was a sign of things to come

It seems the brushless world will end befor we know it.....no Lehners anymore, Neus are not always available, no news on the R1MT or the MMM, and every brushless company is simply devoting their time and experience for the sake of flights and boats.....what's going on man?!!!
|
Dude they still make lehners, I swear!

I fear that I will have gray hair before the MMM is finally released. |
"The Power of the Dark Side Compels you!"
Sadly it's a nitro world. We are small fish to these companies. R&D is being spent on high volume projects. It's terrible but it's the way this world works. I swore I'd never race nitro...now I run my nitro (and hate it) almost every week, my E-CRT comes out to play once in a blue moon. I used to think when a "mainstream" power option like the MMM or R1MT came out it would change everything...it won't. Nitro guys will still look down at us - even if we pass them 3 times in 10 minutes. The only hope is that when one of these things is released, that company partners up with Losi or Jammin or Xray or (Insert MFG name here) to make a shipping electric 1/8th buggy/truggy. Without that we will always be "Amiga" users. DM |
MACII,
I'm working on a E-CRT myself. Can you share some pics of your conversion? (Or have I already asked you that?) |
I will agree with you dave but I do believe that day will come. They are starting to do it with mini's and it will just be a matter of time until some manufacter does it on a larger scale. First I think lipo's will have to become legal to race then hopefully someone big will step up and release a kit.
until then I wont mind having to mod a nitro truck. |

I wish it were not that way. I hope it won't be for long. (but I'm not holding my breath). DM |
Come on guys. There is no excuse for Castle Creations. The main products they had to offer before they bought Berg was brushless ESC. They sure have the know how. I guess they have in house engineers. I know smaller companies out there that can make good brushless ESC for cars without a problem. I know the company that is making Much More's brushless ESC and they have a 100A ESC that looks great. Another company that's out there quoted me on 2 brushless ESC, one is for the E-Savage and the other is water cooled for boats. The only problem is that they wanted me to order 300 units right away. I think CC is just too busy working on Aircraft stuff and they think the surface products isn't making enough money for them. One other thing, I spoke with the engineer about my ESC and they said they will have a little program card to go with the ESC. My ESC should be ready in a few more days.

So I still believe our day will come. With the advancement of lipos and brushless motors it should just be a matter of time. I look at traxxas as an example they just did there vxl series which comes with brushless and all there advertised speeds are with a lipo pack. Some manufacter will eventually do the same thing with a truggy. Now by looking at my sig you can tell that I would prefer it to be a losi but I think traxxas will do it first, but that is just my opinion. |

To me, it's just like everything else. Look at the first cell phones . . . they were big, no battery life, extremely expensive, and only a few people had them. Not to mention people thought they were not needed. Now look and see if you can find anyone without one. I know RC isn't like the cell phone industry, but in terms of development it will be. The fact is that brushless is faster and has more potential for development. Nitro can only get so much better than it is now. I say it's just a matter of time before nitro is the dinosaur. |
IMO, it's the battery technology that scares people. A BL system can be released by anyone and be an easy-to-use bundle. But battery charging and maintenance can be confusing for some. I think there are many more mechanically-inclined people out there than electronically-inclined - after all, you can't see electricity working.
And then, there is the safety aspect of lipos. Sure, they have come a long way and rarely explode/flame, but these same people don't want to take a chance. They could get A123s, but those are heavier and use a different charge profile, which is further confusing for some. |
I agree Brian. I think the next step is in battery development. Not only in the safety factor, but also in the increased performance. Just look at how far the industry has come in the last couple years! I think they will be coming out with some great options in the future. Especially with the consumer demand for energy storage hitting the automotive industry too.

The exploding thing was made by companies who only had NiCad and nimh batteries and they saw what lithium based batteries could do and they were afraid to be put out of business. Remember Trinity's ad on brushless!!!! Those videos didn't show the 12V lead acid battery set away from the lithium battery. Just the other day I messed up on my soldering job and put the black wire on the positive side of the deans and when I went to plug my 2 5S 4900mAh TP on my BBP truck, it shorted. Nothing happened. Actually my Dean plugs got fried a bit. |
I forgot to mention one thing. Next week, I should be getting some new 5000mAh packs for testing and it is safer than the current TP and FP. I have been testing the 11.1v 2200mAh packs and they are doing great.

I got electrocuted a few times and it wasn't so bad LOL. The one time I actually got scared was when I was installing a competition audio system for a friend of mine. I had a few guys helping me and I asked them to make sure that the ground wires were disconnected and I have no clue what happened, but I got thrown back a few feet and the pain through out my body was really scary. I was also shaking a lot. I'm ok though LOL. I wish I had time to mess with my other toys. Here is a photo of 2 of them.
|
Hmm, very impressive. What is it?
|
Competition audio amplifiers. The little guy puts out around 5000watts and the big one puts out close to 8000watts. I have 4 of the big one and 2 of the small one.
