I could care less about the centrally mounted motor. And the problem with the stock Emaxx tranny is that it doesn't have a real slipper. As far as I am concerned if it doesn't have a Revo type slipper then its useless. In other words, stock Emaxx tranny = useless worthless piece of crap.

The upgraded "original" E maxx tranny has disappointing limitations.
I run an upgraded input shaft, and RCM steel idlers. The next weakest points are the plastic output gears and the drive dog. On different occasions, I've stripped each of the lower output gears. I've broken the teeth off the drive dog that engage with the output gears. I've also stripped out the hole in the drive dog where it rides on the output shaft. The plastic gear teeth are weak. It's not that hard to shear them off. I don't think the plastic can take the heat from being spun so fast. The material gets soft when you push it the hardest. I even tried talking to a machine shop about getting steel ones made. The originals are metric, hard to identify and hard to acquire gear stock for. So I ran into a dead end on that venture. I'm VERY excited about a transmission that is 2 1/2 times stronger than stock. The stock one isn't bad, but it comes apart when you exceed 50 - 55mph or so. It's too bad that the tranny couldn't be sealed so that you can run some thin fluid in there to help with the heat.
What about venting the tranny case? Cut some holes and then glue in some metal screen (like in a screen door) to keep debris out, but get some airflow? Either that, or simply run a center diff instead of a tranny... |
I've had some pretty good luck in sealing the tranny. That's another mod I always do.
I use silicone on the mating surfaces during assembly, then use rubber sealed bearings on the output shafts. I haven't experimented with different vicosities on the lube, but I use Lucas oil stabilizer. I think maybe it's a little thick, but seems to work good for gear oil. I don't think I want to vent. Dust and abrasive material is the enemy of gears and bearings. Before the new E Maxx info was released, I was pondering a FLM case to dissapate heat and all steel gears. I think I'll just start with the new E maxx instead.:yes: |

Are those the ones that are advertised as Titanium?
I've asked a few questions of the guy selling them with no response. That tends to steer me away if they won't communicate. IF it's the same guy. |

In regards to the new diffs, what effect do you think that new center piece will have. Its looks like some sort of brace, but I'm wondering what it will do to the diff tuning. Ie is there any possibility that it will allow lighter diff fluid to be used to acheive the same amt of slip?
Big hope as the Revo center diff uses the same diff cup. Anything to add some tunability to that diff (when 500K even gets thin...:no: ) |
