go higher than the 10, i run an 11 XL and my bro a 12XL both with that esc and 6s.

Lincpimp I hope I didn't offend you.....:oops: the point I was trying to make was that if you can shoe horn the motors in they are great for the heavier models

You have a revo with the turnigy HV esc and 11XL right? How fast is that setup on 6s, what kind of lipo are you using? What kind of temps are you getting, and runtime?

Sorry to sound like a question box but not too many people have experience running the exact same setup I am looking at getting.

I run my own made packs, they are two 3s1p 4000mah HECELL U series Gen 1 cells (toted as 20C continuous, 25C surge) run in series.

I haven't been able to take it for a real good run since completion - I love building them but rarely get a chance to run it. I ran it with full packs for about 10 mins out the front, did a few high speed passes and generally just drove around a bit on the empty road - I haven't gone through a full pack yet, but with my batteries I'd estimate at least 15min runtime in my driving conditions.

I run 16/38 and the top speed is pretty nuts - easily as quick as the stock 3.3, even a bit quicker with heaps more torque - it wheelies in second pretty easily.

I haven't noticed the batteries get any warmer than ambient. The ESC gets maybe marginally (4 or 5 degrees C) above ambient, and motor is running a RCM heatsink and is the warmest of the setup - but nowhere near bad warm. I haven't got a temp gun, but can easily hold my hand/finger on the motor can for as long as I want without it burning. Just feels a little warm, maybe 40-45C at a guess?

I'm sure if you were going hard in the dirt with the motor revving a lot harder you would get higher temps.

That said, its a pretty sweet budget setup - don't count on racing with it though. The air ESCs have a soft, low torque start to protect aeroplane gearboxes. While this (i imagine) would massively reduce peak current draw, it also leads to a bit of a delayed response if you back off then gas it again. This pretty much makes it near impossible to power slide or balance it properly in mid air.

Also as a warning, on my brothers (running in a savage), his brakes were very slightly engaged when he first set it up, blipping the throttle with the wheels in the air made smoke pour from the ESC after about 30 seconds. Disassembly of the ESC revealed a black mark on the PCB, but nor near any components at all. It hasn't seemed to affect the function of the unit at all, but maybe he was lucky.

Not at all Peter, you have more experience with the KB than I do! I have 3 of them, 10l, 8xl, and 10xl. I have not had a chance to run them in anything yet, but I have purchased a few 6mm bore pinions and removed the front endbell and tapped it for a conventional bolt pattern.

I need to get the Aftershock conversion started, as I intend to run the 10xl on 8s-10s thru a HV85 esc. The motor should be ideal for the heavy truck, just hope my lipos can keep up!

I originally thought that BOOGIE was using the rcm chassis, and there is very little space for batteries with a motor bigger than 36mm in diameter. Since he has the kershaw mount and access to machine equipment, I see no reason for him not to run the KB.

one thing about the kb's i'm kindof learning about is some of them have a balancing issue according to the folks at rumrunner forums. i haven't really noticed this much from mine, but i do know my bearings are due for replacing. i'm going to pick up the high speed bearings sold at off shore electrics.

I think there was a bad batch that had balance issues a while back mine included but I am pretty sure that has been resolved , I had mine dynamically balanced . was smooth as silk after . I turned two shafts down in my lathe for RRR KB owners and both there motors were very smooth also

Well I decided to go with the KB45 8XL 1700kv with my 6s lipo and turnigy 100 amp HV esc. I hope it runs good as the turnigy esc is supposed to be pretty cog proof and I am still under 40,000 rpms.

I havent decided which will be easier drill a new hole in my savage motor mount or remove the KB45 end bell and drill and tap a new hole. I am leaning towards drilling and tapping.

What is the amp draw rating on the KB45 8XL???

Also if it only has a max of 40000rpm why is it rated to 36V max, when the 1700KV and 36V's places the motor over 60000 rpms? Another thing is according to the specs with the voltage rating and max watt rating what they are the motor is a nice 100amp draw motor,unless the specs are off somewhere.

Well I bought everything this week should be here in the next week or two from hobby city.

Turnigy 100amp HV esc
Zippy-H 4000 mah 25 / 35c lipo
And a KB45 8XL from offshorelectrics.com

I wanted to get the korean made zippy-R but they were all out of stock, but the 4000 mah pack should work good as its constant current rating is at my esc limit and the burst is far above my esc's burst current so I should be good to go.

I think next time I will go A123 though, maybe have battlepack.com make me a 6s pack in the near future.

Just a update for you guys....

I tried out my savage with the turnigy HV esc and a feigao 7XL I had laying around with a zippy 4s 4500mah 21c lipo and it kicked some major butt. Yes the turnigy does have a soft start to it which I kind of like. Anyway I was either using a 16 or 18T pinion with the 7XL and the top speed is about the same as when I was running a axial .32 nitro engine in it.

Wheelie's are still possible with this setup but also avoidable too if your smart with you trigger finger. Anyway I am very impressed with the turnigy esc, lotta bang for low buck.

I plan to install my kb45 8XL in the next day or two and try it out with my 4s and 6s batteries. I am starting to think that the kb45 8XL & 6s lipo will be way too much power after seeing this thing go on ONLY:intello: a feigao 7XL & 4s setup.

I will keep you guys posted....
