I have the Hyperion 0610i and my complaint was when I would try to use the balancer I would get the battery connection error, I called Maxamps where I bought the charger and they were no help, you need to hook up the charger, battery and balancer in a special sequence, I tried every possible combination and nothing worked...it charges fine when I charge through the bannana output jacks, and I balance the packs before I charge with a seperate balancer and I have had no problems, the first couple of times I did this I would also try balancing after charging, and they would be perfectly balanced so I only balance berfore I charge.

I like the hyperion (have a duo myself). IT has a computer interface for firmware updates etc (logging/graphing software coming soon). It measures the battery internal resistance (something the FMA totes as a unique feature), the hyperion has a built in balancer, AND it charges all the common chemistries. For this reason I went from ICE/equinox to Hyperion 0610iDUO.

One of my requirements needed the enourmous power output (for charging HV A123 packs at 10A) so the Duo was a good choice.

I have the 0610i and use it to charge two 2s (total of 4s) packs using a Y connector. It works great, and I haven't had any issues. As for the connection sequence, I plug in the power then the batteries and it works... I haven't had any connection issues.

The sequence really isn't that special.

Once the charger is on and set for the right battery, just do this:

1) Plug in the balance tap
2) Plug in the power lead (within 12 seconds of step 1)
3) Hold down "Enter" to start the charge.
4) Hit enter again when it asks you to confirm the cell count

If that doesn't work, then something is broken.

I can actually make a quick video of the process if it would be helpful. Just let me know.

Steps 1 and 2 sounds just like the stand-alone LBA balancer sequence. If you don't do it in that order, and within several seconds of each other, it doesn't work right.

On a standalone setup you are missing a setup between 2 & 3 - With a standalone hyperion LBA10 - you have to press the button on the LBA 10 to say it is in charging mode and then press go on your charger...


On my 606i (build in balancer) you just setup for correct cell count etc then plug balancer in, battery in and press enter to charger.

If you plug in before setting up cell count you can get over/under voltage errors

A point I always seem to forget when using my LBA10 - until I get the "check batt" error...

That not as bad as not realizing you stole the fuse out the the lba 10... I almost threw it out before I figured out why it wasn't charging...

That's why I tend to use my 610iDUO much more often than my 1210i w/ 2 LBA10s.

The DUO is super easy and doesn't take up much real estate on my table compared to the 1210i and LBA10s plus wiring going every which way. Both are great chargers though.

Just a heads up, I know there are issues learning to use the LBA10 with the Hyperion chargers. The sequance is a mother! But once you get it, its a quick and painless process. But good news is that the LBA10 is an extinct member of the balancing family and has been replaced with Method balancer.

Its $10 more than the LBA and works much better with less hassle, Imagine that! If you want to go up to 10 cells or more look to the Thunder Power TP210. I find it a bit confusing at first but again once you get the process its takes a seat to liking real quick

Well I went ahead and just ordered the Hyperion 0610I . I just couldnt see myself without a charger for as long as I thought it would take to get the FMA . I already sold my ice charger and have a new rock crawler on it's way and the Gorillamaxx is pretty much done and ready to go . I'm kinda jonesing to get something running :lol:
