so i should atleast have a small gap under the cradel? to allow it to flex? my LS10's motor mount is exactly like this on but the cradle sits 3/8 of an inch above the chassis, i tryed to make the design a little stronger by sitting in on the chassis, but you have a good point. ill get an 1/8 inch clearance under it today and post a pic

Oh, you're welcome.
We talked about this a couple times here. If you use the motor as a brace, the motor screws (and motor itself) take a hard beating. Mike himself made a post about this, and why he designed his mounts like the way they are. Let me see if I can find it. edit: found it, read mikes post in that thread. Good point http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12146 |

i hadnt read that yet, i understand the point behind it but i never got a reply in the thread i posted asking if any of mike mounts would fit this truck,
i just tryed flexing my truck chassis on the table by hand and the front does flex maybe 2mm, now the rear didnt flex at all i removed the rear motor brace and i didnt make a difference i removed the two nitro motor mount screws im using to hold the rear of the battery tray and i still did get a little more flex but not as much flex as the front, so i took the screws out of the rear cnc brace and walla lots of flex. now i dunno if it a combination of the battery tray and motor mount setup or my guess is its the extra long cnc diff brace that was part of the special edition stuff made for this extended chassis, but the back of this truck doesnt flex worth a damn. now my LS10 which i have been using this same setup on i got it down and it flexes really bad,it also has a plastic rear diff brace and with the HUGE jumps ive done with it there is no telling how much hell the motor has been through, but i havent had any screws break, or any gear mesh problems either so i dunno, maybe my mounts are just thin enough to flex with the chassis yet still hold everything solid they are only .100 thick (there is a pic below) maybe later on ill get mike to make me a custom mount, when i can afford it and a Nue motor ill make the upgrade but for now im gonna run it, and i made some adjustments and i did get the cradle 3/32''s off the chassis if you think it needs to go higher ill have to shave the fins down on the heat sink some, here is picture to show ya what i have now. |
