What's_nitro? 08.08.2008 09:37 PM

It's mostly an issue with the older firmware (like mine), the newest (3.23) seems to work MUCH better.

I couldn't believe how fast it goes in reverse! I was standing 10ft. away, punched it in rev. and it almost knocked me over...

Yeah, it will go 100% in reverse. That is something you'll need to dial out with the EPA setting on your Tx. It will also affect the braking power, so if you set the EPA to 50% in reverse you'll need to use a stronger brake setting on the ESC.

I figure by the time I turn 40 in December, (when I get the " bugs " worked out ) I will have my buggy just the way I want it.....

I could not even use reverse with the old firmware, but the new firmware works great.

What if I went from 4s to 5s w/this set up. Do you think it would help. A 10xl would probably be better as far as temps go on 5s.

What's_nitro? 08.09.2008 03:02 AM

I think the main reason behind your temp problem is the excessive wheel spin in the soft sand. Lots of people run a 9xl/4s combo in their trucks and have no heat issues. You could try 5s if you already have the battery. It would give you about 35k rpm, up from 27k rpm. 35k is just about at the acceptable "efficiency limit" of the Feigao motors. I would probably start with the same gearing you have now. You'll need to keep the motor loaded even more on 5s, otherwise it WILL get hotter from running high rpm all the time while throwing sand.

Is the reverse clitch you speak of only related to the older firmware version 3.1 because I have the new updated version.

Yep, I had to disable reverse with the old firmware because it was to harsh on the drive train. New firmware version works great in reverse.

Cool, I'm assuming your updated now..I just installed and tested my first mgm (a 224.18) and it's smooth as silk...now I got my sights set on a 160.24 active cooled.

Yep v3.23, and it is nearly as good as the MMM now. I will probably keep it in my truck even after I get the MMM back (no fan issues).

Ran today after doing some set up and gearing changes... w/great results....Finally, I can really start enjoying my buggy!
My buddy was watching me run today and could not believe how quick the buggy was......

Temps.
1. batt. 112
2. esc. 135
3. 9xl 138
4. up 1 tooth on pinion

All this is after running a full battery, 20min

Thanks to all for your help and advice...:mdr:

Good to hear! Those are some low temps, compared to what you had before.
