To my knowledge, the longer can helps dissipate heat, and I think it provides a bit more torque than an L series, maybe similiar to a 540 compared to a 550 motor?
The longer rotor and more wires will provide greater power handling capability, causing the system to run more efficiently when more power is required. The extra surface area of the can does also will allow better heat dissipation (as E-Traxxer said).
the increase in torque is a big help dabid. You have to run one to see. I have run the xl2000,14L nemisis, 7xl feigao. and 9xl nemisis. It is a big difference in the power of the xl motors over the xl 2000. Comparing the two is like comparing a 19 series to a 22 series. The torque is different. I have a video of a 9xl and a 14L the 14 l is on 18 while the 9xl is on 16.

Nice looking savage! Id be really interested in seeing your batteries fitted inside, thats what my plans are for my brushless savage since im running 1.5 extended tvps.
Im a little confused now as to what motor to buy with all this talk of 7,8,9..L and xl lol I wanna run lipo's so what should I get? |
i would definately recommmend an xl. how many lipo cells? 6 is the max on the 7xl. if you wanted to run 6s i would probable get the 8xl. any more than 6s and i would recommend the 9xl.
6s would be the most....How many sub c cells can you run with the 8xl? And where can you get this motor? Dont see it listed on here...
mike can get it im sure. uh, not sure as to how many but im sure it more than 20. probably like 22-24ish. more than anybody would want to run.
Last I talked to mike about this. He said he had some coming. It is the wanderer 20series by bk. I think they going to be around a $100. don't quote me on this. He was going to get 8and 9xl motors in.
Are those as good as the Feigao motors? Or are the same thing.
there essentially the same thing but have better bearings. i.e. there better.

Once all of my orders come (Fast Lane 40mm extended chassis, Ultra MBX center diff, 7XL, and 9920) I'll be ready to roll! I really want to get this done by the 19th, but I may have to wait on the controller because they just sent an e-mail to me that it was backordered :P: . Hopefully all will go well and I can jumble this thing together by my "deadline." If the 9920 doesn't come by then, do you think a 7020 on 16 cells will be able to handle the job? I'm going to be running a BEC pack..
Yes and no on the 7020. If you gear down pretty good you can get some run time out it. It is more than likely still heat up and thermal. I fried my 7020 on a 7xl. I had it geared kind of high. It will be good for a test run and such.
If you have to run a 7020, definitely put a fan on it.
I'll be putting on an oversized heatsink as well as a fan on either controller, so the temps should be fine.

Just took the pics, It's not completely done yet, I still have to wait on the aluminum for my motor mount, my 9920, and a few other small things (wheelie bar!). I don't have everything in place right now, either. The rear center driveshaft was hitting the chassis plate, so I have to grind that out, unfortunately, my dremel just died (curse black and decker dremels!) it was only a month old, too! The truck looks sweet on person, and I'm anxious to get it all finished! I'll try to shoot a vid once it is up and running.
Here are the pics: (sorry for the blur, camera battery was dying and I couldn't adjust the birghtness settings) http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...7/DSC01248.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...7/DSC01249.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...7/DSC01250.jpg Here's a Pic with the motor sitting where it will be when I make the motor mount: (this motor is huge! 7XL) http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...7/DSC01251.jpg |
