IMO Traxxas doent make great vehicles. The make good vehicles for a reasonable price.
The thing Traxxas is great at is Marketing! |

Way back in my early days of rc, a real rc enthusiast wouldn't be caught dead with a traxxas vehicle, they were considered toys. At the time all rc's were kits you had to build (OMG), but traxxas was the only one making rtr's. They filled a niche, less mechanically inclined people could now get into rc's (and trouble lol). |
As a direct response to the thread title: This is a classic example of Darwin's theory.
If other manufacturers can't keep up, they will eventually cease to exist. Survival of the fittest. I don't think there can be such a thing as a "monopoly". If there are no competitors, that's it. Period. No sense in penalizing a manufacturer for being the best and/or only one. |

The only "monopoly's" that I know of are local electric companies. I can only choose to use FPL (Florida Power & Light) for receiving my power at my house. I used to feel the same about cable companies, but now that you can get the dish, guess you at least have options. seems impossible to have a monopoly in the RC industry. |
Traxxas makes good products, and they are well designed. Not the best out there, but better than alot of stuff.
They are marketed towards beginners (most of the nitro stuff) and will always be popular for that. Their electric products were lacking a bit until the revamped emaxx and erevo came out. The slash appears to be a hit, although I do not like mine... I am a basher, and traxxas has stood up as well as anything else that I have tried. All of the mfg products have weakness, just in different places. I am glad that traxxas are releasing new vehicles, keeps their product line interesting and encourages other mfg to make similar products that may be better! |

I don't want the perfect RC, it would negate the point of a hobby and make things really boring.
I am with linc on his opinion of the traxxas deal. They are continually challenging the market instead of hedging all their bets on "safe" products. Kind of like how x-ray came out of no where and has shook the racing market by storm and axial who turned the crawler world upside down. We need companies like this in the hobby. |
