So who's going to be the guinea pig and buy a couple of those suckers and test them out. I would but as I mentioned above I am pretty much set for lipo packs for the time being. Anyone?

The end of long charge cycles w/ lipo's.. 5c ?WOAH!

I just happened to swing by Neu's web site and noticed why they unloaded the previous generation of lipo's for such a great price.. The new generation of lipo's are rated for 5c charging! That is sick! Figures I just ordered two zippy 5k packs the other day... I'm not even sure if they are going to hold up to my system at this point. My 8t conversion w/ a 2.5d is making my evo25's burn up (140) after a full run.. I can only hope these zippy packs can take my punishment. I actually was going to just pay the extra and get the Elite 35c packs, but I couldn't find any in stock. ARGGHH

5k packs at 5c wow (25a)... you won't need as many packs anymore, no memory and quick charging like that.

What charger can do that? At 5c I won't be charging in my house.

anson 11.06.2008 12:32 AM

Wow, 5C charge rates. I don't think I have seen a charger that can charge at 25amps though. Probably cost an arm and a leg to get such a charger.

I have the following questions:

1. Do you still have to let them cool before charging after they were discharged? This would be nice if you could charge them after a race.
2. What charger would support this? My charger supports up to 10 amps. I would assume new chargers will support this.
3. Is that the only benefit, that you can charge them faster?

Hyperion 0610i duo sports 36a max, 18a per side basically but with out some kind of firmware update I think it is limited to a 2c charge rate. Lipo's should be cooled if your system is pulling too hard and they get really hot yes, I would say anything under 100 is fine to drop on the charger immediatly, but ask around.

E-Revonut 11.06.2008 12:52 AM

Personally I would be plenty happy if I could safely charge at 2C and my 0610i duo could handle a 2C charge rate if the packs would take it safely.

DrKnow65 11.06.2008 12:59 AM

Bruce, bad math... 25 amps at ~18volts is not the same as 15 amps at 120 volts.

Threads merged.

Well many can do 2c already so it's not a stretch, but I would have thought we would have seen a 3c 4c etc etc.. I can handle 2c or 3c w/o any ill effect on the cells.. I would actually just like the cells more dense :) shave some weight off on the bigger packs ya know..

25A 1:1 car battery charger couldnt give power to rc car charger to charge 6s @ 6.5A. Maybe full 1:1 car battery + its charger could give enough power.

bl-is-future 11.06.2008 10:15 AM

i will say that the trackpower and flightpower packs take 1.5c no prob. I could even go 2c but i stay at 1.5c to be safe. This is done will close supervision in case i do ever have a mishap but been like this for 4 months now and no problems at all.

A couple of years back a company called FMA had the Scorpion 2S lipos and charger. I have a few of the packs and 2 chargers and I like charging my 3200mAh and 6400mAh packs at 10A. Enerland is ahead of Kokam and 5C is possible. If I had the charger to do it, I would definitely do it. Just to see how many cycles I would get out of it before I see significant loss in capacity. If they can take 100-200 cycles 80% DOD with 2C charge and if these new cells are better, we might expect the same. Even if it's less cycles, it'll still be a lot more fun having them then NiXX.

I throw my packs right on the charger after my races and qualifiers and haven't noticed any negative effects. They don't heat up at all, the temps begin to drop right away.

BlackedOutREVO 11.06.2008 10:25 PM

Whooooo!

Im going to buy some of these for my E revo! Heck, 2C or something if fine for me. What ever the 989 will put out is what they will be charged at LOL
