Nitro to Brushless Buggy/Truggy Conversion - Finally Finished!!

Hello again guys,

Well after quite the delay I finally got the brushless lipo conversion completed. It has been so darn close for the longest time, I just needed a bit more tweaking. I finally got the correct pinion gear to mesh with the spur (cause I had been stripping out pinions like crazy).

Here are the specs on the build:

-Castle Creations Mamba Monster Maxx setup
-Zippy 5000 MAh 5 cell lipo
-Cheapy Traxxas receiver that I had laying around
-Blue water resistant traxxas servo
-Custom RC-Monster mount (Thanks mike!)

Just took it for the firs official spin a few minutes ago. I am really happy with the build so far. Insanely fast! The front tires balloon like crazy. I love the fact that its a buggy though, because of the low center of gravity and great handling. I tried to mount the battery forward to keep it flat while jumping and to keep the front end down. It worked well. Cant wait to get it out in some dirt, and off some jumps later in the day.

Just wanted to say thanks for the assistance with the build! It turned out pretty cool, especially considering it was my first lipo venture.

Ill post up some pics in a bit

Cheers,

cobra198

Looks quite nice. I swear to everything holy if you don't upgrade that TRX radio system...

awesome! Nice clean layout. are you hooked on brushless yet?

Looks great!

Only suggestion would be to find a piece of medium/firm foam to cut down and fill the gap in the battery tray. Straps should hold the lipo in place, but if you hit something dead-on or come down on a hard nose dive you don't want the lipo smashing into the front of the tray.

^^ good advice. losing the "extra" servo saver and just running an arm will tighten up steering.

Nice conversion, it came out looking great! You should pull the center diff out and put thicker fluid in it to help control the ballooning, I've got 30k fluid in my Muggy and my Hyper 7 and I still unload the front tires like mad. Still needs a better radio system and a better steering servo but it's looking great so far.

Haha, yeah yeah, im working on the radio situation. Just a bit low on the funds at the moment. Just wanted to get it running, and that was laying around the garage!

Absolutely, im hooked on brushless! While I was working on this build I also purchased an RC18MT that I converted to a Brushless/Lipo setup. It is so awesome just to be able to plug in the car and go! Instant satisfaction. Its definitely different after using nothing but Nitro cars for the past 6 years.

Thanks for the tip. Im working on a piece of foam to stick in there right now. I'll definitely get it in there before I do any kind of bashing!

Didn't even think about getting rid of that extra servo saver... Im so used to running my Tmax that the steering already feels super nice and snappy. haha. Ill try and get rid of that though. Thanks!

I will try some thicker diff fluid for sure. With the intense ballooning, my front rubber will be gone in a matter of days! Haha...

Anyways, thanks for the tips guys. I appreciate it!

Yeah, I know exactly where you're coming from. I couldn't figure out why I didn't have brakes on my first truggy's run, but ran it anyway. Way before I knew what a EPA was...

nice... we are in the process of starting a revo brushless conversion
will start a thread

You can run duct tape, strapping tape, gorilla tape, etc. on the inside of the tires... that can help a bit with the ballooning.
