awesome build, can you still call it a clod? I'm failing to understand the direct bec power. Were you worried about frying the rx?
|
Looks good chris, I have always wanted to do a super class crawler, but always seem to mod up a MT to something crazy like the 6x6 maxx truck...

It was a bit of extra work to make up the connections but nothing that isn't reversible and if it saves my rx it seemed like a good idea. |
thanks, I guess I answered my own question. I voted for this rig.

WOW..:surprised: Great progress Chris..:intello: How long is it?? and how much does it weigh??
very cool.. I'm assuming you'll be posting video of it soon.. |
Err hmmm well it has been snowing a lot and I had another couple of builds to complete and then started on the tracked CRT.5....
But in honesty I was struggling a bit with stick - I've got a reversing (for steering) and regular (power) y harnesses going in soon... |
Hmm, so you wanna sell me the dx6?
I just received my clod based crawler in the mail. Also got a sweet deal on 4 rcwd knuckles, integy hd gears, steel skids, servo mounts and axle braces. He even threw in adj motor mounts and full bearings for the axles. Any chance of a link to the bec wiring schematic? I am guessing that it is slightly more involved than just wiring the + and - on the servos to the bec output and let the esc internal bec power the rx. I read somewhere that the servos need to share ground (or something like that) with the rx in order to work correctly. I plan to run a 8711 for the front steering and a 9100t for the rear. So I figure the power requirements may be a bit high for those 2. |
You have it on the wiring - Just black and red on servos to bec outputs - If you use the esc bec and all drive off if one battery no need to link the grounds.
I was having issues as initially as using 2 batteries... I'm using the DX6 for flight sim at the moment... I'll try it again in the future probably as you do really need it for the clod... |

I will only run 1 lipo, most likely a 4200 3s pack (seems like all of my crawler use the maxamps 2100 cells). So running a single ccbec should be ok. I will wire the servos directly to it and use the mm internal bec to power the rx. |
That will be my first try - 2 MM and two servos even with mixing was doing my head in

I got it all figured out for mixing and using the switches to turn it off and on - It is very easy on the DX6 - you can mix any 2 channels and use switch to put them on an off.
Hard to tune throttle - I think I'll start with just putting a y on that... Might drop to a single MM and use a servo for 3 position dig... Too hard else... |

So do you have any video of this bad boy yet Chris??? or are you still working on it ??
P.S. Per the news it's FRICKEN COLD in NY.. It sucks to be you rite now!.. It’s been high 70 here!..:gasp: or i.e. nice to be So-Cal.. hahhahaaaa ..:intello: |
