Performance between a Neu and a Neu Castle motor is about 1% + or -, well within the best motor specs. Really good motors, same brand, same model number have a Kv range of + or - 5%. Good motors are off 7% - 10%. Not so good motors by 10% - 15%. Even in closely rated magnets there is variation, the best copper varies, variances creep in with the best manufacturing process etc. etc. Lower quality means wider variance from spec.
The Neu Castle 2200 Kv motor is a Neu 1515/1Y. The Neu Castle 2560 motor is a Neu 1512/1Y. The 2560 is a smaller motor capable of handling less watts, than the 2200. The 2200 is a 1,250 watts to 2,500 watts motor, the 2650 is a 1,000 watts to 2,000 watt motor. (746.5 watts per hp) Watt ratings for motors have nothing to do with how much power the motor will put out, only what they can handle. In fact any sensorless/brushless motors ability to put out power is close to infinite only restricted by battery output capability. Watt ratings are the power the motor can put out before it overheats. The more airflow the more watts the motor can handle because airflow increases cooling. BTW: Cutting holes in the windshield of a car to direct airflow over the motor is much more effective than adding a fan. The 2200 motor is universal, it will work in any 1/8th scale vehicle or monster on 4s - 6s without any problems and more power than the vehicle can handle on higher cell counts. The 2650 is for lighter 1/8 scale vehicle such as buggies etc. It is IMHO to much for a light car on 4s and you are better off with the 2200. Putting a 2650 in a heavier 1/8 scale, like a truggy, is asking for heat issues, simple because it is a smaller motor. These motors are much higher torque than a 2 pole slotless motor , like some of the motors mentioned here (Neu Castle motors are 4 pole slotted), making them a much better choice of 1/8 scale than 2 pole motors. If I read your post correctly you are recommending a 2200 combo even for a 1/8 buggy? I am converting a kyosho Kanai to be specific and will ONLY run it on 4S. Thanks for your help. I am ready to buy my next combo and want to make sure I'm buying the right one. I was about to buy a 2650 combo for this conversion! |

I, personally, think the 2650 on 4s in a buggy is too much for racing. On 4s the 2200 is almost manageable. The motors weight difference is only .3 of an oz. which is negligible. They both take the same size batteries (4500 - 5000 mah 20+c Lipo), the 2650 does not run on a lighter battery.

Thanks for the additional clarification. I would be running 5000 mAh or 8000 mAh, so I should be in the clear on that portion.
I take it that it is OK to gear up a 2200 to get speed out of it on 4S in a 1/8 buggy? I'll take my 2200 off the E-maxx and try it on the buggy. The spur is a 46, what pinion would you recommend to get a good balance on heat/run time/speed? |
is your buggy a losi? i had anywhere between a 13 to a 15t and it was fine
