Well the losi's offer better overall grip and are ribbed inside so they don't balloon up at high speed very much. That was there down side b/c even with the slipper set so loose that the truck wouldnt wheely it would still eat a shimmed diff. The badland are more sensitive to steering inputs and offer less grip (so it will help the diffs last longer). They also need to be taped (I used gorilla duck tape ) so the tires wouldnt balloon at higher speed(they are not ribbed inside to prevent it) . Both tires handle completely different! I do like the badlands and would recommend them(the only downside to big lugs on a tire is lak of grip on hard packed surfaces)
Since you have the e-revo I would say go with the badlands b/c the e-revo's diffs cant handle the extream grip and weight of the losi's tires. |
How do you tape the tire
Sounds like a silly question but are you putting the tape sticky side towards the inside of the tire? is it single or double sided?

Single sided tape(like standard duck tape). Turn the tire inside out and stick the tape all the way around the center (leave about 1 in or so of tape overlap , Oh sticky side towards tire) It really helps performance of the tire at high speeds

remove the tire from the wheel, turn the tire inside out and run a length of duct tape on the inside of the tire on the area where the main tread is
|
Get the badlands and zero offset LPR wheels. Cut the bead off of the badlands and mount them on the LPR wheels with the stock foam that comes with the Badland tires. The lower profile on the sidewall and higher foam density from having a slightly overstuffed foam really makes a big difference to reduce the amount of ballooning and you shouldnt need tape on the tires unless you are shoot for some really high speeds.
I prefer zero offset wheels on my revo for track purposes. The zero offset wheels give you close to the stock track width and the revo will turn better. With offset wheels the wider track width makes it turn slower and it fels less responsive from my experience. The 1/2 offset wheels are great for stability if you are running in open areas or speed runs, but it handles better with standard (zero) offet wheels IMO. |
You tape the inside of the tire below the tread. I use Scotch Strapping Tape, it's a reinforced packing tape.

cool. thanks. next question, have pivot balls popping out on the front end from time to time. Whats a good way to harden these?
|
RPM makes axle carriers that use bigger bearings and have more material around the pillowball.

Yes they use the ones with the metsl ring and larger bearings. I just broke one and got the part # out of the owners manual and the manual says that the rear uses a 5334(not the r) but then show the larger bearing being used???? I ordered the 5334 and it didnt fit! So I just got the 5334r and I am now back up and running!
Edit: I only broke one b/c it was 19*F outside and hit the ramp doing 40mph and landed sideways(58ft away) on the rear tire! |
what is the slayden steering mod?

The Steve Slayden's steering mod
It's simply a few little modifications you can do to get the maximum steering throw from your Revo. But it does come at the expense of pillow balls popping out if you don't have some kind of reinforced carriers like the 5334R from Traxxas or the expensive RD Racing ones. |

look's like mistercrash beat me to it! you can also mod the stock carrier's with a piece of copper tubing IIRC are your toe link's set-up equally? |
what wheels work with the super bolt on tires?

The losi tires are 40 series and proline make a set of beadlocks and so does axial(sp ? and they are call oversized beadlocks). I just put a set of the losi superbolt-ons on a set of proline 40 series beadlocks(for my friends lst2). I had to dremmel a little of the rubber off the inside mounting band of the tire to make it fit well in the beadlocks though. Overall it wasnt hard and they bit well in the rim. The losi tires are very grippy
