I've got respect for anyone aiming for huge speeds.

but I agree, there's no point in saying you have the fastest Rusty, Pede, Revo or whatever, if the model you're running is something far removed from the original.

I've tried to speed-run my stock Rustler VXl and can't get above 60mph without flipping, and that's with weight in the front (which I consider is still within the definition of 'stock' ).

Now, get a stock rusty reliably above that and I'll be impressed.

If I change the chassis on my slash and get it over 100 will you be impressed?

Change it for what? a 16" slab of alloy? No.

A few facts;

It takes about five times as much power to go 100 mph vs 60 mph or the vehicle would have to have 80% less drag.

When wind resistance exceeds the traction between the tires and the road, that is your maximum speed no matter what (likely less than 100 mph for rustler)

I know it is fun to try to make something go fast that shouldn't but be warned that it will cost A LOT of money and time, and if you do not do a few calculations, trial and error will be endless. The other people who think they are shooting for 100 mph in a rusty will very likely not actually get there, so there really isnt anything to worry about in terms of competition. Just shoot for the highest possible speed you can get and be satified with that. Once you realize that you may have to shorten the A-arms so the wheels fit underneath a nice compact body, and that the front end has to be virtually weightless, there may be nothing left that resembles the original vehicle.

A thundertech low cg chassis. Basically it will be like a long rustler.

Duuuddeee!!! Why did you crash???? :lol: All joking aside I think you can make it if your transmission can take the abuse for a few runs. As far as whether it is still a Rustler or not, I think if the stock tranny is used and the WB is within 2" of stock then it's OK. Tires are another question. Some say foams make it "not a ST anymore". I say foams may be necessary to get to these high speeds. :yes:

Does this look like a Rustler to you? It's far from stock, but it still bears a resemblance. I'm packing 6s 5000 FP, LMT 1940/7 Hi-Amp, and a MMM.

PBO: good luck on your quest for 100mph. I was on track for 100mph last year and had to get away from it due to a distraction that came in the form of RC drag racing. Anyway, I was getting up to 90mph with a 5S Hyperion 5350LCX, Lehner Basic XL3100, Mamba Max and 18/36 Mod1 gearing. I had OFNA belted tires with tread in the rear using New Era 17mm hubs and Bandit front wheels. I also had a FLM chassis in stock length as well as front extended A-arms, stock length rear A-arms, and trans case. I used a JConcepts Bandit body for aerodynamics with front and rear wings like you have. My suspension looks pretty much like yours but with 4-Tec shocks in the fronts.

I hit 68mph on one of the runs but I could have gone much faster. It was geared for casual fun in that vid plus I didnt have much room to cope with for good speeds. I would have bet that with the right conditions and downforce on the front along with proper gearing that I could have hit 80mph+ pretty easily.

I know your configuration very well, you have been a major influence for my attempt & yes some of the design elements of mine are inspired by yours. All the best with the drag racing, it's a shame you won't be running anymore
