Mike, I'm pretty sure I put all the spacers back on the motor, but how would I know if they were all on there? Would there be a of play with the shaft?
|
Was/is the rotor able to spin freely? It is also likely that you damaged some copper inside the can, which is causing the short.
|
well, I really dont think its the motor because the truck was acting really wierd right before it started to smoke. this is a link to a story similar to mine........9920 up in smoke
|
I personally would contact the company i bought it from, or/and directly contact to the producer (BK)
You never know. If your motor is in good condition, you still have got some options open. |
i actually got mine wet (only a few drops!) and bk warranted it and replaced it for free.

that is service imo!

Just found this thread while searching to see if anyone else has had this very problem. I bought a 9920 from here a few months ago but only used it very briefly, not more than 5 times. Yesterday I plugged in the batteries to my controller the same way as I do always, but then it started to just smoke for some strange reason. No idea how. I unplugged everything, checked it all over and tried again, I couldn't see any smoke, but when I throttled it a lot more smoke came out. I unplugged everything immediately. Motor was a Wanderer 8xl on only 14 cells. The wheels also seemed to turn much much slower than it should. I don't suppose I should try it again now to see if it works as some of you guys said it sometimes does after it smokes?

IMO - I agree with Mike. If something smoked, it may not be working properly and why take the chance of something else getting fried because of that. How does one say...."if you let the smoke out........" Also, i would have dremmel off the pinion and not use a vise...that way, you are not putting any extra tension or tugging on things that really don't need it.

Was thinking of getting a 9920 but think I might go with quark or mgm strange happennings I am going to use 14 cells and thinking of getting IB4200
