I emailed Dan about this and heres what he had to say:

"I have had a couple customer install the dogbone kit and thought the front dogbone was too long. When i probed a little further, I found out that the cups were installed with the stock set screws with pins instead of the supplied 4mm set screws. Makes all the difference."

I have no idea what dan is talking about there. As far as I know he doesn't have a set of V3 diff's in any of his revo's. Futher more I do have another revo that runs stock diffs with a set of his e-revo shafts, I use the traxxas pins to hold them to the pinion shafts and everythign is fine.

I have a set of V3 diffs in a revo. There is only one way to install the drive cups on the V3. The front drive shaft will not fit. I installed the drive cups as the instructions say on the pinions, and at the tranny side I used the traxxas pins to hold those cups on.
Let us know how yours turns out.

I think I'm going to have to get the Trx cups for the ext suspension. I mocked everything up and the Trx cv shafts are close to popping out the cup.

I might try to use the stock center shafts too if possible.

I just installed the diffs with Kershaws kit, as you stated the shaft was a tiny bit too long. To make it work i simply ground down the shaft coming out of the transmission, took me a couple minutes with the dremel.

The diffs themselves look great, fit and finish were also impressive.

and now for the picks!!

Do you have any binding issues w/the sase and the internal gears?

shizzon 04.24.2009 06:18 PM

if tightened too much slightly, but as Mike stated there should be a wear-in period for the gears. I actually hooked them up to my dremel and spun them for a bit with the case tightened down and then backed off the screws a 1/4 turn or so and the binding was nearly all gone. Im sure it will get better with use as well.

I did the same in backing off of the case just a bit...now no probs.

How do the Traxxas cups #5153r fit with the Traxxas CV shafts?

im not using the traxxas extended cups, those are the MIP ones that came with the CVD's. i might try the traxxas ones (i bought them and didnt install them) as the MIP ones wont stay on the outputs, i think the setscrew is not all the way on the output.
