I try to do what I can to help, then get bored with that and start doing something else, but for a really cool project like this, I thought I'd give it a shot.

I do have a 1521 2.5y but I plan to put that in the 6x6 LST. However that truck may end up being heavier than this truck, so I may swap motors. The 1527 2y is almost the same kv as the 1521 2.5y, so gearing will not change. Not sure if Lutach's LT10 esc will handle the 1527 geared for 35 in the 6x6lst... I guess we will see, 10s at 100 amps at 75% eff is 3.5hp, so I guess it will be fine. Maybe it will work in this truck too... I guess I can give that esc a try, test its limits!

A lot to get that big son of a bitch moving.

It will be long, but I do not plan to run a super heavy wheel tire combo. The cage/roll bar will add some weight, but I will try to design it to be as minimalistic as possible. Lots of large triangles for strength!

BL_RV0 05.09.2009 11:18 PM

James! I thought we told you to never go near a large triangle again after last month's incedent....

Hmm, long day I guess, I do not follow you with that joke?

Anyways, I had a look at the 1/6 scale chassis you linked to. WB is only 18" and I need to go to about 22-23" to fit the body correctly. Design is basically the same, although I plan to use thinner al for the tvps and brace it so that it is lighter and stronger than a thick tvp chassis would be.

I doubt it's any use to you, but kershaw makes a 4" stretch chassis over the stock savage x tvps. It's also 130 bucks.

I was going to pm and ask you what you thought about that... I guess we will see. I will start with conservative gearing. I have not done any sort of cap mod yet, I am guessing that would be a good idea? Since the truck will be heavier, braking stress will be higher. What caps and how many should I use? Any other tips? Maybe put a fan on the esc?

I used 2 Radio Shack 1000uF 50V caps just to see how they would perform and they did the job very well, but I do recommend the Low ESR 105C type capacitors. After the cap mod, leave the ESC as is without a fan, but check temps regularly and if it heats up then add one. Data log the runs to actually see how many amps your set up is pulling. I don't think the 1527/2Y will need a lot of amps to get your vehicle moving.

HPI quotes 22.5". Edit: The stock 5b-5t a-arms have some caster built into the a-arm mount so wheelbase will vary depending on ride height. I built my revo with 22.25" and it looks fine. Definitely keep it light and with as much weight as low as possible. My revo ended up with more weight up top than anticipated and likes to get up on 2 wheels, on the street and grass anyway. BTW I'm at 12.5lbs without the body or mounts.

Can't wait to see how yours turns out. I put my MMM combo back into the buggy until I can at least lower the battery and maybe add the kershaw extension kit to it. And maybe that 10s ESC!

That sounds about right for the WB. I should have the xl rear driveshaft in this week, and plan to get the 15" wb savage done by then... Need to spend some time at work after hours to get the tvps finished!

You do have alot on your plate. Sounds like you and me both need a shop at home. The less time we have to spend at work the better, even if it isn't "real" work.

Very true. If I go home I just play on the pc and watch tv... Sometimes I play golf or bolwing on the wii... Or some Matt Hoffman on Dreamcast.

I will try to get alot done this week. At least with rc! I have a feeling that I will be drunk this weekend, only turn 29 once!

Yeah, the wife is taking me out to dinner, gotta love hibachi, and I am sure the sake will flow like wine and the women will flock instinctively like the salmon of Capistrano! Or something like that.

I may take Sat off and work on rc all day! Get you guys some well deserved pics!
