lol, wire nuts eh? Looks like someone went to Home Depot trying to find something, anything, that will connect two wires with no thought to contact resistance at high currents. In a house, ~120v and low current is ok to use wire nuts, but R/C? And that AM Rx so close to the wires is bound to cause trouble. This person will probably be the next person to sign up here just to ask "I have a new setup and it's not running right, but can't figure out why". Still, we all have to start somewhere...

FYI, this was hiamplidude's first bl conversion... I thought the wire nuts were quite funny. It just goes to show that everyone has to start somewhere...

LOL HiAmp was running that setup before most people on here were playing with R/C's. Him and Brian from BPP, and Promod were the original pioneers back in early 2000's.


I still remember those days.... Ah the beauty of cells... But I don't remember why the wire nuts...

HiAmp had some amazing set-ups after this one. He was one of the very first people that got me started into brushless R/C back in 2004. We should really respect him, as it was his early testing that probably lead a lot of us into brushless without even knowing.

A lot of the rules we have now about what to do and what not to do came from him figuring it out the hard and expensive way. Great guy too, along with Promod and Outkast.

Most of these guys making fun of ole hiamp don't realize that without guys like him outkast, and promod, the hobby would not be what it is today. There were no lipo at the time, and really hardly a controller to be found with car firmware. The best batteries out were Sanyo 2400 mah nicad and GP 3300 nimh. The Sanyo's while having less mah had kept higher voltages under load and provided more punch than the GP's.

Go to the TRX forums and look up the member hiamplidude and you will see how far back he goes. He was also one of the prime testers for the ultramaxxed gears that were so coveted a few short years ago.

It's easy to poke fun without all the information. Also keep in mind many of his setups were expiremental as no one had any clue what would and would not work at the time. The wire nuts were a way to make quick changes without a lot of hassle.

So in the words of the famous one, "keep awn keepin awn........."

I wish his site was still alive so that we can look back and see how far along we have come.

I remember these guys testing out the 8s, 9L, small aveox sensored setups. They ran hot but made them work. Wanna talk about testing? HiAmp had documentation on every setup he ran, for the motor, esc, gearing, speeds, temps, etc... He provided plenty of trial and error running information so that the lesser crowd, like me, could get into BL. Outkast pioneered the dual 7xl tranny roaster. He could never put the power down without roasting those dreaded plastic gears. And of course, Promod. What a site to see, 32 cells stacked on a Racebomb chassis or other chassis....

I started with a BK18120 and Feigao 9L on a Torpedo chassis. It was great but sucked because of those darn NiMh packs. You should have seen everyones faces at the track when I pull it out. There were fascinated like it was alien of some sort. The hobby shop guys didn't believe me. That BK esc is still ticking today and running strong in a Revo 2.5 conversion. Over 6 yrs old and still making it.

I have not been in the hobby long enough to remember it first hand, but have read all of the old threads. I came in right when the MM came out, so that was my first larger scale bl esc. I can imagine the frustration the pioneers must have had. I started with nimhs and could ruin them with a MM in a rustler... Sure it was geared for 90 or something like that! (well before I found the BrianG speed calc..)

Anyways I figured the pic would give some a laugh, like I said everyone starts somewhere, and i am sure hiamp moved on from that setup pretty quickly!
