Changing timing is equivelent to changing Kv, lower for more torque, higher for more top end rpm..

Actually both torque and rpm increase as you go up in timing. You'll draw more current which means shorter runtime and higher temps but more power. That's why it's best to try gearing higher first and use timing as a fine tuning adjustment.
