I dont think she would like the headphones idea . My expectations would be resonable . Im thinking about getting two of them . I have cheap sony vio speakers on my computer .

hippie, as far as I know, Logitech is pretty good with their wiring. My Z-5500 system came with 8ft wires for the front speakers and 25ft wires for the surround speakers.

I think they will be fine . The more i think about it . I can just mount the sub on top of the tower on the bottom shelf.

I have a Creative Labs 2.1 system on my desk, and know a few people with the same one as I do. They are not the loudest, but they do produce crisp, clean sound, especially with a bit of playing around with the EQ :yes:

Of the reviews of the A200 system that I have read, most of them say there is too much bass. Simple fix. when in iTunes, open the built in equalizer and click the bass reducer preset. that takes care of that.

I don't have much experience with Altec Lansing, but from what I hear, they also make some pretty good stuff

I'm kinda partial to the Logitech systems for the money. Simply the best bang for the buck. I have the Z-2200 system (2 speakers and a sub) and it's plenty loud and sounds very good for what it is. Price is above the $30 target though, but you're gonna get what you pay for for the most part.

And Bose? You mean "blows" right? :wink: As you can probably gather, I'm not too fond of them. They just use relatively crappy drivers with a mediocre amp, but in a properly designed box, and charge a premium. Their acoutiwave system simply uses a transition line enclosure design, which has been around forever. Fairly inefficient, but sounds good. A good enclosure can make a crappy driver sound great, and a bad enclosure can make a top shelf driver sound crappy.

i love the sound of the logitec speakers dad has, they are just 2x tweeters and a big bass.

I have the previous generation of these, and they're great. When I got them, they were $100 and also had a $50 rebate so well worth the $50 total price! The newer version (actually old since they came out in 2004) are too expensive at $164, but you may be able to find some elsewhere cheaper. This is probably what your dad has. A couple of gripes though: 1) the volume control scratches at very low volumes after about 1 year (could just replace the pot), 2) the bass, being in a ported enclosure (-24db/oct slope below the port frequency), doesn't dip low enough for movies IMO, but fine for most music, and 3) mids are a little lacking.

Creative makes some pretty solid stuff too. I love their sound cards, but that's something else. My brother has some creative speakers and he seems more than happy (they aren't a 5.1, but they were great for the price).

The speakers I replaced with the Z-5500's were actually Altec Lansings. It was a 4.1 system...from 10 years back. 3inch drivers with a downfiring 6inch sub. As long as you didn't turn the volume up too much (sub would start to fade since it wasn't powerful enough), the system produced fantastic sound and the only thing that was going out was my volume knob - after 10 years! (And given, I had left these on overnight many many many times). At lower volume levels there would be a bit of crackle/static but some playing with the computer volume output and the knob and I could get rid of it no problem.

If their speakers now are anything like those speakers, then they are of fantastic quality. Given, those 4.1's did cost 100 bucks back then. I still use them now. They are my 'iPod dock' for my bedroom.

I bought these speakers for my special friend . since she does not have any speakers know & does not use here computer that much, these should be more than enough for her . Plus they had free shipping .

I think you made the right decision for her speakers. They'll sound fine for what she needs them for. IMHO you should've bought yourself something a bit better! :mdr: :lol:

Personally, I'm an audiophile- and as such I have the Z-5500 system. AAMOF I'm blasting it as I type this! :smile: I got a sweet deal on eBay....

I did'nt want to spend a lot for speakers . The speakers i have know are sony vaio's . There power rating is 0.5w per speaker . So with these speakers being 5w per sattilite & 15w for the sub . They should kick the crap out of the current ones i have :lol:.
