I never liked halo. If anyone plays 360 COD 5 and soon to be MW2 shoot me a PM for my xbox live gamer tag.

Wow. You got it early. I have "release day arrival" from Amazon and don't get it till Tuesday. I'm on a PS3 (Slim).

Use the WalMart lifetime warranty  You'll be back in service in an hour.

t-maxxracer32 11.09.2009 02:59 AM

not the best idea.

walmart is not stupid anymore and checks the serial numbers.

if you swap the motherboard you will make it obvious that you voided the warranty once they take off the face plate

i repair broken 360s so i know how to make everything look legit and even with everything i know they still were not dumb enough to fall for it.

maybe the walmart where you live has not gotten smart yet or has lazy customer service who doesnt do that great of a job but im just warning you.

if you have warranty then send it in

edit--- if you dont have warranty then its actually an easy to fix to get rid of the E-74 error

I swapped the cases on mine when it died a month or so back. Took it back when I knew there'd be nobody there that would know to pull the faceplate off, took me about 30 seconds to get my refund (paid in cash, of course). They didn't even check to make sure the controller and cords were in the box.

t-maxxracer32 11.09.2009 03:10 AM

wow you lucky duck.

i thought i was smart because i went later at night to do it all.

i bought the 360, in cash, took it apart and everything and had it back to the store within 30 minutes and the cashier lady had this massive checklist for it.

serial numbers passed, i didnt take anything else out of the box, but once she took off that faceplate i was screwed. I tried telling her it was impossible to switch the case in 30 minutes even if i knew how but she just said sorry i cannot do anything for you.

needless to say i wasted my time and money!

Ouch, that sucks. IMO Microshaft is probably getting sick of all the XBoxes getting returned like that and are pressuring the retailers to do better checks to make sure it's not modified (which is why I went to Walmart rather than GameStop, GS people know more about consoles to check for mods).

t-maxxracer32 11.09.2009 03:53 AM

ya i agree with you. im sure a grip of people have ripped of walmart and target, but in my opinion its not a huge deal.. microsoft puts out a product that is prone to fail and they know it. Its such an easy fix too!

anyways MW2 comes out tomorow for me and im way excited

BP-Revo 11.09.2009 04:36 AM

Wow, they take the face plate off? That's pretty extreme.

Is there a way to swap over the serial numbers too?

(Sorry for my ignorance, I've never owned an Xbox or Xbox 360, nor have I ever even taken apart any game console, short of a Wii which I tried to mod for a friend).

Yeah, I don't feel bad at all for doing it. If they would simply fix the issue on their end they wouldn't have to deal with as many replacements.

I have to work all morning, afternoon, evening, and into tuesday but my boss said he'd let me take off at midnight to pick up MW2...then come back to work :diablo:

In some places, yeah. It has a tamperproof sticker between the top and bottom halves of the case that will be obviously broken if you took it apart to swap cases.

The serial numbers are on a sticker on the back. I assumed it would be tamper-evident like the faceplate sticker so I simply put my old case on my new XBox and the old guts into the new case and returned the new case with old guts.

EDIT: I wouldn't try swapping cases with a Wii or a PS3 which are built considerably better. The XBox 360 is one step up from cardboard and duct tape. I can crack one open in a matter of minutes and do a complete swap in a half hour or so because they're slapped together so poorly.

I heard the Devs for that game were a bunch of asshats and they won't have dedicated servers or anythign like that (maybe it mostly a complaint for the PC version tho...)
