The Glary is great, but it doesn't monitor in real time.

I use the free version of AVG and it works fine for me. I would first take a look at any Norton FAQs to see if this is a common occurrance before you scrap it since you already paid for it.

Well as I mentioned I uninstalled Norton first thing when my troubles arose.

But because my restore point was at a time when Norton WAS installed, I now have ghostware.

The AVG warned me there may be potential conflicts, and I tried uninstalling Norton and it won't let me. So I have abot 50 megs trapped in purgatory, it's there, but it's not.

I am using AVG atm, I really do not want to reinstall Norton because I don't have a dualcore with loads of RAM. Norton is a hog, and slows things down alot.

How would I go about uninstalling Norton, I don't want to risk reinstalling to uninstall, if that even would work.....

You NEVER wanna run more then one antivirus program at a time or it will wreak havok with your PC.

You did good getting rid of Norton. I just finished doing that myself and flushed 3 copies off my PCs before my contract with them ended. Using NOD32 on one, AVG on another and trying MS's free Security Essentials. Seems to be Ok.

The NOD32 is on the laptop I consult with and my current client insists on either ESET, McAfee or Norton. So far, NOD32 has been good, its way less obtrusive than Norton and has a really small footprint. Doesn't eat resources the way Norton does.

The only Norton product worth having is Ghost and I won't be without it, no more rebuilding for me!

Take a look at Panda cloud antivirus also. Cnet and PC world have reviewed.

I personally use CCleaner and Malware Bites, they work great & I havent had any major issues in a long time- all the more impressive given the 'adult' nature of the websites I sometimes visit.... :wink:

Yeah I've tried a bunch, all from CNet. AdAware, SpyBot, MalWareBytes, and did use AVG before, but those were all just temporary 'checks' and were then uninstalled. The Norton I would have never bought, was only for PC resuscitation, and I am really not a computer type (should be obvious lol) but I managed to clutch this poor laptop from the gates of hell. I was pretty proud of that :)

So since then I just let Norton slug it, but then this 2010 Update.

Had no reason to think it would screw with something as innocent as a USB driver....

Anyway AVG is for sure less of a drag, I'll keep it awhile and see how it compares protection-wise.

As a temporary check I would be putting on Avast Free edition and doing a scan with that just to check for anything nasty. Then go back to AVG if you like it.

I take it the Zen media players are now working fine.
