I still need to test my little Muvi camera type thingy- bloody weather goes from bad to worse... |
Bah So just because of this thread I just spend $27 on the keychain camera (16.90) and a 4GB Memory card (10)...
Will let you know more when it arrives... |
I just got the Turnigy camera! At first I was amazed at how small it is. I expected it to be bigger. It is 2 1/4" tall and 3/4" length and width at it's widest points.
It didn't come with any instructions, and it needs to be hooked up with the included usb cord and charged a little before it will turn on. I did a couple short video tests, but I wont post anything until this weekend, if the weather is good. As of now, inside, the video quality is pretty bad, if you're moving. The resolution is great standing still; hopefully it will be better outside. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7302273.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7302274.jpg The card included is a Sandisk 2gb micro sd card made in taiwan with a code on it saying "0906503544s488", or something similar. The numbers are extremely small and I don't have a magnifying glass handy. I tried to get a clear shot of the numbers but they're too darn small http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/S7302277.jpg The video has a timestamp on it be default, but I think there is a way to remove it. I'll post it up if I figure it out. Does anyone else have a Turnigy cam yet? |
I received mine a few weeks ago but yet to try it out on the track.
|
Not great with fast motion then Riley?
Thread about it on RCG- http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1188019 If you would, upload like a 30 second vid to www.Mediafire.com, and post a link here?? It doesn't need to be anything great, just a quick pan up and down your street or something. I'd like to download a file and check the stats. If you're down with that I'd appreciate it  |
What cam are you using Redshift? Prob not that small as you have been taking vids for a couple years now right?
Idea, it would be cool to have an extra receiver with a servo on it controlling the direction of the cam in a race, that way a buddy can turn the cam to face different directions. Just a thought. |
Not using anything at the moment lol the old Flycam was retired with a water landing back in August (not me flying hehe). And the original Turnigy HK52 I got back in the fall really doesn't do much for me. I've done vids for just about one year, mostly 2009.
I think the keychain cams are the way to go for onboard, I don't have one yet tho. Your pan and/or tilt idea is a good one, lots of pilots have been doing just that. All you'd need is a 3 channel for a simple 2 position setup, no extra receiver needed for that. I may do it myself, either that or 2 full time views, the cams are cheap enough! |
I know, but if you don't have a 3ch Rx is what I meant... I should have got the DX3.0 and not the 2.0. But yeah, a 2 positions would be nice, like forward and backwards is all you would need.
|
I'm pretty sure you can mod the DX2.0 to be a 3.0. I think I read that somewhere anyway. It would be worth a quick look.
Found it: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_91...tm.htm#9127563 |
For racing I think youd want two cams, a second cam would be the same weight as an additional servo, or even less. Plus you'd have to remember "one click forward then one click back" in the middle of a race the whole time. My plan is to run the cams sans batteries, and instead use a DC-DC converter with JST plugs. There are issues with the little 1S lipos in many of these cams, I figure why not eliminate it and lighten the ballast (planes), and eliminate charging the stupid things too!

Well, I had some extra time today between homework and church, so I made a short vid. The fist part is me holding the camera. For the second part I attached the camera to my handlebars of my bike. I will be doing e-bike riding this weekend and I'll upload that video to youtube.
Mediafire original 73mb avi file - http://www.mediafire.com/?jjj15mwzn4n Mediafire 15mb, 1.5mbps wmv video - http://www.mediafire.com/?ldhtjlgjyb4 And that second file uploaded to photobucket- <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid345.photobucket.com/albums/p382/metallover1/Turnigytest2.flv"> And finally here's a screenshot taken from the paused avi file. It looks a little better then the screenshot when the video is moving, but this will give you an idea of the resolution. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...gytestshot.jpg This weekend a better video will come. I might attach it to my helmet, who knows.. |
Cool, thanks for the trials!
Ok it comes up 720 x 480 and 30fps. I was especially interested to know if there were repeated frames, and there are not. The resolution looks way better than the HK52, so this does look like a good candidate for onboard. I may end up with a few of these as well as the keychain cams. If only they would both lose the timestamp! I sure can't wait for that white crap to go away tho  |
Oh, but there is a way to remove the timestamp! I am pretty sure I saw it while reading up on the camera. After tonight I'll be real busy until Saturday, but I might find time to post er up and figure er out before then..
|
Hope you're right about that, I've only seen how to correct the date. I really don't see why they put it there at all, but then most of us probably don't understand Chinese logic...
|
better than i could imagine for the price, i may have to order one as well, thanks for the vid cant wait to see it in something fast!
