I would highly suggest the dual rate springs from RC Raven for those shocks. Losi springs never felt right on there, esp as it got heavy. Power coated, but cheap at only $7 set. Many colors too.

Are you going to have something instead of the body to protect the F shocks? May get mangled a bit

Would you mind posting up a better pic of the wing mount? Curious to how you did it. The wing mount has a section that it supposed to go beyond the shock tower and have a crosspin go thru right? Did you just cut it off?

Chassis ....cant go wrong with the FLM if your looking at XL length. Or one of the CF makers might be an neat one to lighten it up a bit.

I'll second that the BEC's might be value added and worth looking into. I haven't had any issues so far on 5/6S on any of my trucks, but who knows how long that will last.

Thinking about it Ryan I'm guessing its an OFNA LX1 wing mount - I used to pick these up cheaply on ebay primarily for the wing.

It just bolts directly up to the shock tower - The mount doesn't extend through the tower... I just lined up the top screws and drilled new holes for the other positions.

For the chassis I'm hoping for an FLM XXXXL with a cab i.e. an FLM 5B style chassis...

For the shocks - i was thinking of something like this...

Question for the masses - but should I mount the rear shocks behind the rear tower or in front...

Any pro's / con's?

JThiessen 05.17.2010 09:36 AM

Who makes those mounts???? They look nice. Shocks aint all that bad either!

Re; front or back mounting. If you go for the front, you need to change the carrier to one like the Integy that eliminates the tie rod. Not sure about on the rear - I never even looked at it to see if it could mount there.

Finnster - have you actually used these? Now that I have a mini-fleet of these shocks, I need to get a spring selection going. Guess at seven per set, can't go wrong with trying them.

Arct1k 05.17.2010 09:49 AM

Those mounts are designed for the 5B - I neem to email them to check on the whole spacing to see if I can make it work...

I just ordered a pair of springs in silver to try... 12.50 with shipping...

YEs, I have these on my savage now. I had Losi yellows. silver, black and white springs (came w. the used shocks I bought from a trader here) but none of them were ever quite to my liking. Plus I hated having two different color springs F&R. ;)

The Ravens are plush and fairly soft for small bumps, but get quite stiff and stop bottoming out the chassis even off big drops. (my truck is quite heavy also w. 1kg of batts, FLM bits, and a big 1521)
I have never gone back to the Losi's.

Thanks on the wing mount info. Most mounts I saw either didn't have the correct mounting holes or some wierd tab. The LSP mount was the only one I ever saw that worked, but was short and the wing was under the top of the shock tower and silly looking. I'll have to keep my eye out for an LX-1 mount.

G/l on the chassis. Perhaps you can convince Jaime to make some XXL ext Savage arms as well. A 1" extension per side would be really nice for the longer chassis ;)

Finnster 05.17.2010 10:52 AM

BTW, since I have 4WS, I mounted the shocks in the rear. They work fine either direction.

the only thing I don't like about the LST/AS shocks on the savage is that the lower shock end only mounts w. a 4mm screw and hangs away from the arm a bit by a spacer. As a consequence, the 3mm screw gets bent over time. I don't see that the FLM arms really change this either.

Add a better lower mount the the list of possible improvements to some FLM arms. :)

Hmm I'll have a look at my setup as only used the space in the arm not an extra one on the outside...

Mine would not fit in the std mounting location, as the sring would rub the upper arms. Then again I have the adj arm kit, so IDK if that makes a diff or not. LMK how it works

JThiessen 05.17.2010 03:24 PM

Something is backwards then - I had to use the spacer on the outside. If yours clears, post up some pics of how they are mounted....might save us all some grief!!!

thzero 05.17.2010 03:28 PM

I emailed them awhile back about it... they said maybe they'd have something of the sort by RCM, but nothing showed up.
