Thanks snell! I was just curious what the MMpro had over the MMM.

snellemin 05.24.2010 01:54 PM

The MMM still has more off the line power over the MMpro, which is a big plus with the fast guys.

I would guess that the times are quicker with the MMM for two main reasons:

1. The MMM has a little lower resistance than the MM, so currents to the motor will be higher (and thus, more torque).

2. The MMM has a more sophisticated back-EMF circuit and a faster processor, and can lock timing earlier than the MM. (and thus, higher torque earlier...)

Yes, that makes sense. I also love the 10AWG battery wires, which also lend to lower resistance compared to the 13AWG wires on the MMs. I now use 10AWG wires on the motor side as well. Thanks again Patrick.

BTW, YGPM Patrick.

So what if any advantages could be had using the MMpro over the MMM. Obviously understanding the MMM is capable of more power. Also I would be noting sensorless vs sensorless running the same theoretical motor since the MMM cannot run sensored.

I have found (through trial) that the MMPro is not suitable for pro class drag racing, which is what I primarily participate in. By pro class I mean non-index (bracket included) "heads-up" racing. However, the MMPro is a favorite in index and bracket classes around the country.

As a side note, the fastest 6ft time that I'd personally witnessed was by Todd Commons from Australia with his 6S Extreme Class Dragster when he came to race in San Antonio for last year's Worlds. It was 0.177s and I believe his ET was 1.26s. My best 6ft from last weekend was 0.186s which is only 0.011 off from Todd's. I shudder to think what my ET's would be on 3S whenever I sought out traction issues on the big end. Todd also uses MMMs in his rides.

I know Im a few days old on this conversation but I have to disagree with the mmp statement Sunny. I ran my mmp 2s setup today with a sensored motor and I was very impressed. I made back to back run with minimum changes because I want to see how consistent it was. 1.64, 1.63, 1.61, 1.67 and 1.60. Fastest mph being 89.7 and slowest 81. I think this esc is great in the pro classes. I also use it in my funnycar and best et so far with it has been 1.430 @ 101. The problems I was having before went away after adding 2 caps. I dont know if caps solved the problem or if I changed something else but that was the noticeable thing. I guess its all in the setup. I like the mmm but I've been more consistent with the pro.

SunnyHouTX 06.14.2010 05:35 PM

I think I should said it another way. I meant to say sensored set-ups don't do it for me in pro classes.

Another update from this past weekend with my dragster:

Still the fastest Top Fuel in Texas :whip:

Arct1k 06.14.2010 05:41 PM

You need to do something about the reaction tie .42 to .59... but you had a much faster setup... :)

lil3j 06.14.2010 05:43 PM

Thats a heck of a 6' time man.. Nice run

Yeah, I knew it going in so I made sure I didn't red-light and throw the race away :intello:

Thanks man. Yeah, I'm liking this new set-up  Gonna try something next time out to get the mph a little higher and should also get the ET lower if my number-crunching serves me well.

True story, till you run .02 over and were .03 later at the start :)

Used to Jr. Dragrace.. hated losing on the holeshot.

SunnyHouTX 06.14.2010 08:58 PM

Yeah, but I kinda knew that I had the faster car by a long shot on that race so I just relaxed and waited for that last yellow to fully light up and Ka-BOOM... off she went. I think I had already caught up to him before mid-track.

Edit: here's the final against the guy who TQ'd with a 1.393 (I'm on the left lane)

Thanks to ifloyd for this photo-sequence of the TF final, which the above time slip is from.

SA track looks nice and sticky Sunny.

Pdelcast 06.15.2010 12:24 PM

Wow, very consistent end of track speeds too. Nice hookup. :)
