Optiman over at RCZ tested the 5.5 to be as fast as the 5300 or faster I think depending on cell count that you put on the 5300 if I am not mistaken. If you can find the thread it was a good read. He had charts and everything. I like my 5.5. It's pretty torquey and fast. I haven't tried it in my pede, but it pushed my rustler above 40.(gps verified). But I want more too. I just traded back for my 8s and it is so powerful. But I think I need to go to 7 or 8 cells to really make it go. Good luck with your new system. I've heard great things about the 5300. I actually had a 4200 at one time. It was great. Something in the controler or motor was jacked up and was refunded. Let us know how it went. That is one sweet truck. Did you do cut the tires to make them fit?

Also, where did you get the system? Also, how did you extend the chassis like that? Oh and YGPM.

I'm planning on running at least 7 cells and probably 8 cells every once in a while. I would be happy with mid to high 40mph range though. I cut the mounting bead off the stock 2.2 Masher 2K's to make them fit in the 2.8 Jato wheel. And for the chassis, I bought another stock chassis to use. Then I cut a piece out of the new chassis and I cut the current chassis and added them together with a 2 part epoxy (plastic welding system). I was wondering about the strenght, but I have put the truck through hell and haven't had any problems yet. I bought the brushless sytem off Ebay. It was from Allen Mueller on here. $220 something shipped to my house so I couldn't pass it up.

I was worried that I might have issues running this new brushless setup with the stock Traxxas AM radio, so I bought a JR XS3 synthesized system to go along with this kit. This truck should be setup nice once I get done with it.

Have you gotten this in yet?

f150dan 04.08.2006 02:45 AM

yea, I got it up and running today. I also broke a rear axle shaft with it. It wasn't what I was expecting, but its definately an increase in power. It outperformed my SS 5800 in top speed and torque geared 12/87 when my SS combo had 17/87 gearing.

The 12/87 is what I decided to start with, so I haven't had any time to mess with the ratio and find the sweet spot for my truck. After running a whole 7 cell GP 3300 pack to it, the ESC wasn't even warm. The motor was warm (using the 5 second finger meter) but it can stand a little more gear. I'm gonna try to tweek the ESC and radio settings tonight and see what happens. I will also change the gearing and see what happens.

Well it doesn't really surprise me that it isn't what you expected. I felt the same way once I got my 8s running. Now my 5.5 did surprise me though. I think my 5.5 has more top end and mid range than my 8s. I had my 8s geared 17/84 and the motor was smoking hot. I gear it 15/84 now.

But I do think once you gear up you'll see a big improvement. I geared my 4200 17/81 and 19/84. It did really well and the top end was pretty fast. Also, if you get a 8cell you'll see it really open up from what I understand. Good luck.

Right now I'm waiting on 2 new HPI dogbones to come in from tower. Once they arrive my Pede should be back in business. I finally figured out most of the settings on my new XS3 so last night I got it and the Mtroniks ESC dialed in. Hopefully I'll see a difference in power that way also.

What timing should I set the lehner 5300 at? It was at 0 degree and I bumped it up to 6 degree hoping to see a difference.

Re~Mix 04.08.2006 11:27 AM

Just leave it, on 7 cells with the right gearing it should blow you away. I Think you are a bit undergeared at the moment? Anybody else agree. Mabye 14-16/87? With 7 cells it should hit around 45 mph or more so you better be blown away in comparison to your old ss5800. Just make sure to keep monitoring temperatures. I bought a digital temp gun and it works wonders (no wondering whether or not you just have cold fingers or sensitive ones).

bigair78 04.08.2006 12:05 PM

Yeah, I would definitely go up to 15 or 17/87. Heck I would try an 84 tooth as well.

f150dan 04.08.2006 12:52 PM

I have a temp gun for my nitros that I can use. What temp range should be looking for?

Any luck messing with it? Have you found that sweet spot yet?

f150dan 04.09.2006 08:52 PM

I'm still waiting on my HPI dogbones.

I have the radio and esc set to where I think I will like it. I bumped the gearing up to 16/90 for right now. I will be happy if I can run 17-18/90 gearing.

stampy 04.09.2006 08:57 PM

hey when you get it up and running shot a vid of it :028:

joostin420 04.09.2006 09:11 PM

i have a 5300 with 14/87 in a stampede and rustler running 7cells each. i have been extremely happy with the performance.

is that a 12 tooth pinion you have there, where did you get it?
