I'm just trying to decide now if I should continue working on cutting out my own chassis or build this one first ?
If I finish cutting on build my own then I can resale the DB as unused ?

IDK, I'll see where a 12pack of Bud leads me to do in this afternoons progress ?

if it was me, and i had the tools required and the time, i would most definitely make my own chassis to how i would like it. Then you can get your money back for the DB... Also its truly your own custom work which is always a bonus

I'm with you on that Jahay!

All this time I thought that hump in the DB chassis was like a faux cab and the motor was in the rear. I see the cutouts for the steering up there in the F. huh.

My conversion used the stock XL plates and a motor in the rear, so ymmv

those humps really do reinforce the chassis a whole load from front end collisions and nose dives from big jumps... I have done WOT into a lamp post on 6s and destroyed my motor etc... but the tvps were un touched. AMAZINGLY STRONG

Keep us up to date with this build. My wallet is watching closely.

I haven't touched it in 2 weeks, ben working on other stuff. I spent all my free time the last few days rebuilding and setting up my SC18.
I'm hopeing next week to start back to finish cutting and start filing. Then make my mind up where the trans, batterys etc are gonna go. Then make some center shafts.
Hope to have a update with pics middle next week, fingers crossed.

Finially a UPDATE !

I finially have the TVP's cut out, They fit the bulkheads pretty good except a couple tiny spots where the radius is a tick off. I can def live w/it.

As of right now the Wheel Base is 24-1/4", not real sure I want to keep it this long. I was thinking 20-21" would be more than enough but I want mine to be different so IDK ?

I hadn't planned on running a body hence the high area/wanna be cab. These large bodies are nearly a $100.00 or more and they just get trashed from all the weight ?

I have yet to do the cut outs to lighten it, figured I save that for when I'm close to completion. I need to do the finishing touches on the other TVP and then decide where the tranny/batterys are going. Then I have to make braces and center axles.

Yeah I know, The more I'm thinking about it the more I'm talking myself into shortning it. It's just that all the work I have into cutting the fronts will be wasted and need to start all over :whip:

Thinking of chopping 3-1/4" off the front, probably get started on that first thing in the AM.

Bmr4life 08.21.2010 06:48 PM

You moving the trans and motor up front, to the center? Going for 50/50 balance?

Bondonutz 08.21.2010 06:55 PM

Trans in the middle, motor behind it,batterys up front. I figured I have a spare few inches at the back with a bare spot. Gonna shoot for more of a 60/40 F-R
Unless someone suggests a better idea ? I have time to think about the layout since I'm gonna chop a few inches off the front first.

Well here's a thought. Make the wheelbase/chassis length adjustable.
