Haven't had anything over 120* myself, even after a hard bash on 8s. Def no complaints with this motor other than make sure your Lipos are up to it.

So Bodonutz, you run your Castle 1717 on 8S? No issues. I was going to try eventually (when I get the MMMXL) but wasn't sure if it was up to it.

I'm geared for 47mph and the RPMs are right at the thresehold of max rpm and still runs way under max temps. Wicked torque and speed.

When a motor is rated for kv, isn't that an unloaded rating?

8S is what I have in mind for the 1717 also.

Between a little punch control and maybe a little torque control, tame the beast just a little to lessen those amp draw spikes?

What kind of timing are you running with your Bondo?

My lst got the motor up to around 140-150f with 20mins of hard stop and go and alot of tire slip. I bet this motor is a best on 8s geared down... I may have to try that in the 6x6!

It was rather difficult to fit. It required shaving a lot off the rear shock mount, and I also had to shim the transmission up with washers on the chassis so the 23t pinion could mesh with the 38t spur...the 36t spur causes more problems than it's worth, if you have a 25 or 26t pinion it will probably be ok. I also lapped the motor mount face to improve heat transfer but also move the motor as forward as possible, even if it was a miniscule amount.

Having ran my 1515 on 4s, the 1717's lower Kv makes the E-Revo a lot slower than I was used to, but much much more torquey, with less startup cogging (usually none). The 40mm fan on the motor mount keeps the temps way down...I doubt this motor ever saw higher than 120F. After most of our bashing/jumping sessions, it's barely over 100F. Currently running it on twin 4s 4500mAh Nano-Techs.
