Can 'we' get a little more official input on the esc from the Castle team maybe, there are some interesting theories and rumours floating around about:

http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...s&goto=newpost

I know, noob central but if Joe or someone could offer some insight it would answer some questions..

Well, I don't have a login for Traxxas' web board, and don't really want to get involved there.

We design and build ALL Castle logo'd ESCs in our production facility in Kansas. I personally designed the new Traxxas marine controller from scratch. It is not a "waterproofed" Mamba Monster, it is an entirely new design. We don't build anything that we don't design.

The other ESC is not built by Castle, not warranted by Castle, not designed by Castle, has nothing to do with Castle.

The motors that say "Castle" on them are built by Castle Holdings LLC in China, using the same design as the 1410 motor (just double magnet and stator length -- 1420-1800kV)

Thanks!

Patrick

Oh, and if you want some details:

The new Traxxas ESC uses the latest MOSFET from Infineon -- a really kick-butt ultra-low RDSOn part. Expensive, but worth it!

It's a large footprint to keep everything nice and cool. Comes with a 5A switching BEC built-in, and integrated 5.5mm bullets to flow power smoothly.

It's fully epoxy encapsulated, using a very low viscosity epoxy applied by some new robots that Castle built for our in-house potting line.

The motor is a four pole, 1420, 1800kV motor based on the design of our popular 1410 SCT motor. It uses stainless hardware and bearings to (hopefully!) keep the rust to a minimum. Still need to oil the bearings occasionally as the lube can get washed out with water splashing. We were originally planning to use sealed bearings, but they didn't last as long as the shielded bearings -- so we stuck with standard shielded bearings.

Of course, Traxxas got a nice, cool blue finish on the motor, and a clear anodize on the end-bells. The laser etch looks very nice with the clear anodize.

So what kind of power can we expect from this 1420? 1500 watts, or more?

bruce750i 07.22.2011 11:34 AM

Is it me or are those input wires looking skinny on the esc? That's a tricked out looking motor. I need one on my motor shelf. Thanks for dropping by Patrick and setting us straight.

Ps Thanks for the hand porn SuicideNeil

That's perfect, cheers very much Patrick- I can just link the guys to this page and they can read the info first hand themselves

Not my hands btw, but you're welcome

More -- We've run successfully in our testing pushing peaks above 2400watts.

Thats good to know, thanks for the info. looks like I wil be trying to score one of these setups for an upcoming boat build.

This is seeming more and more like the ultimate RTR boat. It is pushing me closer to being a boat owner and not a fence sitter.

It is a very very cool boat. Traxxas did an awesome job on the design.

No way. With the exception of the electronics (now anyhow), the hull isn't anything to write home about. Check out the thread on offshoreelectrics.com about what it does if you happen to submarine it at speed. It ain't pretty.

thanks for the info, one more reason to get one now lol

Will Castle be selling these motors under their own brand?
What are the dimensions & weight?

That's the first I have seen of that and it's obvious the boat was way over powered.

I am not suggesting it's the greatest race boat, but an awesome RTR package for casual boaters like I would be.

It's really worth some reading time over on OSE about all of the RTR options available these days from Aquacraft and Pro Boat. While I respect the electronics in the Spartan now that they're Castle, you get a whole lot more boat (quality hull and hardware) for the money with some other RTR's.
