You could save some weight I guess but the comparison between a 5b, 5sc and losi 5t is 21 lbs, 28 lbs and 37 lbs. Some of the additional weight will be the driveline (for 4wd). One might hope it is beefed up to allow for the additional weight as well.

Well, The electric rampage i have ( http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...hlight=rampage ) is 4x4 and it runs right around 29lbs, so i dont know where the extra 8lbs comes from on the losi. But i dont foresee the extra poundage being a problem because with a 2215 and 10s, i wish my rampage weighed a little more. It bounces around like an overpowered slash.

Very interesting info - For the HPI to be that light (or even close to that light), I'd guess the speculation that it's Savage-based is correct.

What Castle motor, though? It seems that their recently discontinued 1520 or 1717 would be the best fit for a truck of that size. The 2028 seems too big. Does Castle have a new motor up it's sleeve???

RC is kind of my off-season thing. I was at a bicycle event and was invited to race an RC enduro that HPI put on. They wouldn't let me see the truck without a body, but it was definitely a Castle motor. They did say they are thinking of running a bigger motor for production. Whatever the motor was it through the truck around like a Slash 4x4 on 3S. It was pretty pissed. :great:

Hopefully HPI IS doing something akin to the Rampage XBE and not a Savage-based scale up. If so, I think they've got the potential to make a real winner. A 1717 or 1520 would be enough if ya asked me. Maybe a 1518 rated for lower kv to keep temps down and sustain long runs without chance of failure.

More 1:5 scale! Sweet!

I watched a vid of the HPI E-5sc 4wd and it seemed to handle alot like the Savage 5t vids I've seen. It landed very "light", 2 wheeled pretty easily, and kinda bounced around a little like the Savage 5t. Sounded an awful lot like a MMM and a 15 series motor, they have a pretty distinctive sound under braking. I'd bet money its not Baja based and am leaning towards Savage instead of Buggy style.

As far as the Losi 5sc goes, I'm not sure where the 37lbs came from, but I would think it weighs alot closer to 30lbs. Not trying to doubt anyones internet info speculation, but an all alloy (and I mean everything is 7075 alum) Hurrax 1/5 monster truck tips the scales at about 35lbs. Can't see the Losi with alot less aluminum and more plastic with smaller tires weighing the same or more as the Hurrax.

The Losi is on the larger side of 1/5 scale though, very close in size to the Baja. The Redcats are 4-5 inches shorter in wheelbase alone, no beadlocks, center spool instead of a diff, etc, so it is expected for them to be lighter.

Definitely was not based on the Baja. From what I could see through the rear window the battery cases were looked like the E-Revo setup. I couldn't get a good look at the chassis, but it looked much flatter than the Savage.

The shock damping was very light. They even mentioned that was on purpose to help with true desert type conditions. I imagine if you ran at a groomed track then you'd add damping to increase consistency.

More interesting info!!! Next you'll tell us you have pics through the back window but have been holding out on us (just kidding). I'd be really surprised if they designed a completely new layout for a 1/5th scale 4wd and made it lighter than their 2wd (that's why most are guessing it's Savage-based). I'm not doubting your observations at all - it's just hard to figure.

Well the Baja platform was never intended for 4wd and people have been screaming for one for awhile now. Maybe HPI developed a new platform for 1/5 4wd that can be electric or gas, like the Redcat X series. If thats the case I wouldn't doubt if they were just showing the E version first cause electric is the hot thing now. They could still end up releasing both the electric and gas versions at the same time. Either way, exciting time in large scale. Glad I haven't bought anything yet, gotta see how this turns out!

E-Revonut 09.17.2011 04:21 PM

Info is up on the losi site, it's all gas and based on a truggy/buggy platform

Overdriven 09.17.2011 05:43 PM

Was referring to the speculation about the HPI. The only unknown with the Losi is the weight, everything else is documented on their site like you said.
