The 1717 is already in the plan for the production version. Gearing will be limited, but it should fit.

How limited with the gearing? I am running a 34t or 32t pinion with the stock spur right now and its perfect with the giant tires I am running |
The min/max center to center distance is 32/33mm. Limit on the lower is the can running into the drive cup (.25mm of clearance.) If you were willing to dremel out the fins on the motor can you could easily get another 1.5mm.
Biggest steel spur I know of would be 48T on a ofna 8 spider gear, so that's a pitch diameter of 48mm, radius of 24mm. So you need a 16-18T pinion or if you are willing to dremel, 13T pinion. Note, I've heard rumor of a Serpent 52T and Mike's slipperential has a 50, though it's plastic. The motor is a 1650kv, I'll assume you'll run 6s that's 51mph/71mph. For reference, the speed we calculate for our 1350kv Tekins is 47max on a 14/46. They are just warm to the to the touch so could probably handle another tooth =50.5mph. On a small racetrack like we have here in Easley we use 12/46 and 13/48 with good results ~40mph. I'm thinking that with the 48T ofna diff and a 16T pinion 63mph will be just about right for the 1717. If you can find a tire that'll handle that speed for very long. Bear in mind that this motor is quite heavy (1/2lb more than a T8) and I presume has way too much power for any racetrack applications. So bashing on well glued badlanders ought to be a lot of fun at 60+mph. Just don't get in it's way :D |

LOL, that's pretty funny.
However, in ref to the 1717, I don't think it'll be very safe for the little one at 60+ mph |
For sure, not even think of doing it. I'm geared 28/51 mod1 and still have my 2 speed trans.
So the pulling is done in first gear! Fred |
Idk if this helps at all, but for one of my conversions I used a center diff out of a kyosho mp777 with a kyosho 52t lightened spur gear. Not sure if the diff would fit your mount, but its 34mm from bearing to bearing. The big spur allowed to me run better gearing around 43mph instead of 55+!

WE HAVE PRODUCTION PARTS!!!!
2nd Generation Production Parts are just about 'in stock' now. Well, the prototype has come to the end of it's useful life. Still in great shape mind you, but even Unlimited Engineering has a limit how many trucks we can support. 3 HVLs will be running in the stable. I'll keep stocker with the prototype. RTR on a moment's notice. As some of you may have seen there's going to be a new truck based on the 1717 And the Racetruck Prototype. Today was the Racetruck's day to see new parts and it got the Gen2 Production High Voltage Lightning. Eric wants to have a racetrack day tomorrow and I want the truck ready. By noon there was a basket of parts on my desk and I was into it by then. I tried to follow the instructions so here's real life images that can be used for assembly. Took me the better part of 3-4 hours since I rebuilt diffs along the way. The build went easily and everything worked quite well. The Black Oxide one one of the motor cams is all that's holding us back from shipping. That part will be done and here next week. I expect all my backorders to be shipped next week and the kit will be 'in stock'. Out the door they went. All the pre-orders have been shipped and the kits are now 'in stock'. whoo hoo, that was a long haul. http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...ore/11020.html http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...ore/11021.html Also, the Castle 1717 fits like a glove. The original Lightning was just laying around gathering dust so today with the arrival most of the High Voltage CNC gear I figured it was the perfect opportunity to build another Lightning which was always the biggest mac daddy one in the fleet. Today the original Lightning donated it's VBS with SetBacks. And I found a Gen4 Saver in my search for parts. A new High Voltage Lightning Kit and a Castle 1717 with an RX8 to round out the main power. A 7955TG with castle BEC and 8th scale big bore long travel shocks. I have a 1520 coming as well and according to the computer it will fit. |
When will you have VBS and VBS-T bulkheads in stock?
You sell a HV for VBS but you can not get them out of stock? Any help would be great. Thanks WEB |
Ignore the cabling mess up front. I'm running a BEC and splitters because the RX8 only puts off 5.5v (cranking up to 8v). New RX8 gen 2 arriving shortly.

Beautiful build... :)
