DJ,

I'm running a 540C 9L, 9920, 4s lipo and weighing in around 10.7lbs in an emaxx. I was running the same gearing as you. 16/66. If your running the stock revo diffs and emaxx tranny your gear ratio should be identical to mine.

I was having all kinds of problems with heat and such like you with both the motor and the esc when I first set it up. What I wound up doing was going to 26/66 and run locked in first gear. (I still have the 2 speed tranny) This about the equivalent to 15/66 in 2nd gear. I put a small fan on both the motor and esc and now it runs almost perfect temps. Cant really push either one over 120-130, and the bats barely get warm. It has really nice speed and power for only a 9L

(http://cgi.ebay.com/Small-Cooling-Fa...QQcmdZViewItem this is the fans I used)

Side note:
Cool thing about this setup is I am set for all around bashing in 1st gear, but then when I want to play around I can pop out the occasional speed run by just flipping to 2nd gear. No gearing set up hassles. It gets pretty hot in only 1 or 2 passes geared like that, and in 2nd gear, but its not meant for constant running. a pass or 2.... cool down. With that gearing I wouldn't recommend starting from a stop. get up to speed in first then shift to 2nd. Cant say that I can verify it (no radar or gps) but its gotta be toping 50 easy. Calculations say 57mph. pretty uncontrollable at top speed.

Thanks for the info.....My truck is locked in second gear permanetley....via the gorrilamaxx single speed tranny conversion.....
Its seems I have found about the right gearing at 66/20...
The motor temp hovers at 150 and the esc about 140.....This is the happiest medium I could find with what gearing options I have....
So in order shunt the heat form my esc and motor I have mounted an 80mm fan...yes I said 80mm.....
It does some wicked cooling and now my motor and esc don't go above 115 degrees......
The fans rpm is adjustable from 1500 to 4000 via a pot that i have connected......
The current draw at max rpm is .7 amp
The current draw at minimum rpm is ,23 amp
This i really like beacause on the hot days like today when its 90 degrees outside I can just turn the sucker up and have no worries.....
I will post a pic when I can get my camera working again..you guys might like this...

thanks

I would like to see a pic of the adjustable fan - sounds like the ticket...

I had a 80mm fan on my HV and I used a computer fan the same size as the stock on on my ESC. I ran both fans off both main packs (14.4-16.8).

I was geared two teeth over the Novak recommended on my pinion and 2 teeth lower than recommended on my spur, and it still ran ice cold. It was pretty amazing.

I honestly think the HV is an excellent system with plenty of power, but that it just gets bogged down by heavier trucks and also needs some external cooling. But if you put a fan on the sucker, you can gear up pretty high, and the system has the torque to accelerate just as fast as it did before, and you get much more top speed out of it.

Also, since I have now gone CF G2R (which is alot lighter), and got the newer HV 6.5, which is supposed to be more heat resistant, I think I can get alot out of the system...

Sorry for sorta hi-jacking your thread - I kinda went on from the fan lol...

HEY all,
I pretty much am a dumbass at this point because I had totally forgotten about finding the optimal motor timing setting.....
on my 380c motor using my U-Force 75 I have found the medium to soft timing works best.....
Well, i had my 18.97 set to very soft which is not good for the new c series motors from feigao....
So I readjusted the timing to soft from very soft and it performs much better than before.....
