Yea, you should be able to use the Kyosho spur.

Good thing you got a fan on that 18.97, that fan can't be big enough to blow away the smoke once it goes.. :)

It looks like a light setup to me!

If the gear lash is set correctly, it should not eat up a pinion in one run. I'd check the lash on the pinion, and also see if maybe you motor is flexing under load, causing the pinion to engage the spur at a angle.

I run combinations like this all the time. I use hardened/hardened and aluminum/hardened, or aluminum/aluminum on my RC pullers. If one of my tractors can pull 800lbs, I'm sure your CRT will hold up. Proper engagement of the gears is essential though.

Actually, without a hardened pinion, they won't last long at all. no hardened on hardened isn't a good idea and will NOT last. Plastic spur is cheaper and better. Especially if one of them goes, it will be alot cheaper and alot easier to replace...

Just thought I'd update how things went yesterday at the track...the E-CRT is amazing. I'd say I shaved 2 seconds off my lap times...went from 23s & 24s to 21s & 22s...My gearing however was WAY off. It was far too fast and it caused me to go into thermal shut down EVERY single race. Amazingly I was so blazing fast while running that I still won them all anyway! (it was a very light day at the track...if the usual guys were there I doubt I could stop for 15 -20 seconds and still win) Anyway I'm off to the RC-Monster store to purchase some tiny pinions and hopefully go a full 5 mins without thermalling...We don't run with the Nitro Truggies but my lap times were better than ALL but one of them (the track owner - who is an amzaing racer). We have an AMB which estimates your finish time, and before the thermal I was on a 14 lap pace, only one truggy got to a 14 lap pace. All in all I'd say it's totally competitive with Nitro for the 5 mins...

FWIW, the 14 tooth modified clutch bell pinion I used survived the spur...I'm hopeful that the hardend pinions Mike has will stand up to the abuse - at least for 5-7 race days...if I can get that much life out of one, I'd be very happy.

Mac, why not try a Kyosho 46 or 44T spur?? They will probably bolt right up.

I'm willing to try anything - got a part number? I just don't see how it will fit on this diff...the CRT spur is the cap for the diff, the bearing sits on the neck of the spur... perhaps the hot setup is to use a plastic spur diff - scrapping the CRT diff altogther.

the koyosho is the end cap as well. Mike has them in the store.

Ratz...just purchased $50 of pinions...ok...so that looks like an option if this doesn't fly only one question...46 teeth is very small, especially considering that with 62/14 I was WAY over geared. Since 46/11 is still taller yet than what I was running, are there other options with more teeth that can cap the diff?

I've seen pinions down to 9 teeth. That will be lower than you were running.

If you still need more gear you can switch the diff ring and pinion to the hot bodies LSP units.

Yea, if you really need a low gear ratio, Tower Hobbies has non-hardened 9 tooth 5mm bore pinions.

Mike made an adapter for another person on the forum. If you want one He could hook you up as well. Tower has a 65 tooth mod 1 gear with a little enlargeing of the center hole it will bolt right up to a center ofna diff. That would expande your horizon to. The hb truggy diffs are a solution to. The 4.3 gearing to the 3.31 gearing you have now.
