I have no reason to doubt the HP to weight ratio to achieve those times, but I seriously doubt it can actually do 0-60 in under 2 seconds. It just isn't possible in a street car... there is no way to hook up that well. Those are paper numbers IMO.

If it actually has run that 0-60 time, it was with slicks and a real sticky drag strip.

Oh, and I don't consider these $xxx, xxx carbon fiber race-cars-made-for-the-street to be true production cars. They are race cars with turn signals and no roll cage. :027:

Here is a nice stock looking car that does 0-60 in 2 seconds. Yes I am sure it was on slicks but a daily driver none the less. This car was in Car and Drivers (I believe?) Super Tuner Shootout a couple years ago.

Johnny, I remember that issue. I actually still have it around somewhere. It was some kinda of Supercar Shootout were most of them were Vipers, Corvettes, and even a 4WD GMC Synoma that had a LS1 and twin turbos. I believe it was one of the fasted 0-60 but broke on the road course test.

Isn't the MC lauren F1 pronouned to be the worlds fastest an road car? I'm not sure if its a production car though.

If anyone wan'ts great looking desktop backrounds and great in quality go to:
www.supercars.net
Go ahed and type in any car you want and shurely that car will pop up. Its the perfect car site displays the pictues in great resolution and size.
Some or most cars that you look up have pictures of how they look inside. MAN THE VEYRON IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR INSIDE NEVER MIND OUTSIDE!

The barabus is 270mph. The new veyron is 272mph. (both claimed)

I think buggatti made the new veyron to compete with the barabus. I still think buggatti could make the veyron faster still. 8L(?) W16 kicking out 1200BHP, it could (race tuned, F1 style) hit at least 1800.

Mike - The Fastest car right now 'officially' is the Koenigsegg ccr at 241.1 (or very close). Veyron that's out just now, would hammer it in a straight line; the ccr doesnt have great acceleration apparently.

Those Lingenfelter cars are awesome. That's a good example of a "real car" and not a purebred race car.

When you get over like 500HP traction is a huge factor in 0-60 and 1/4mile.

Just like cruisin in my cousin's 500hp 74 Nova: mucho wheelspin :013: :005:

Street tires can't put the massive amount of power to the ground. I have noticed a wide range of performance #'s from one magazine's test to another.

They should put slicks on all these cars (or run a prepped sticky track) so traction is not an issue, and see what they can really do.. just put an asterisk next to the #'s so we know it's with slicks.

Maybe that's what the 1.75 seconds was.

Procharged5.0 08.10.2006 09:10 PM

Most of the supercars break when you put slicks on. They just don't seem to tolerate it well.

Check out this site: www.turbofordgt.com my friend helped build the car. It scares off Hyabusa's on NOS regularly. Over 1000hp the the rear wheels! It could only manage a low 10 at the dragstrip due to severe tire spin down most of the length of the track.

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 08.11.2006 03:28 AM

That thing is nice! Do you know what his trap speed was at the end of the 1/4?

Procharged5.0 08.11.2006 10:17 AM

142 MPH with the wheels (drag radials) spinning.

His buddy ran his 9 sec stang along side and let off because the GT kept getting sideways and he was afraid of making contact! The TurboGT with traction and a bit more tuning would be capable of 160mph in the quarter and low-mid nines. If it were optimized for drag racing (probably hard to do with a GT) it could run solidly in the mid 8's.

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 08.12.2006 01:11 AM

That sounds about right. My brother has a 65 Nova that he just had dynoed @ 850ish HP. He hasn't had it to the track yet but their guesstimate for it (from a friends computer program) was somewhere in the mid 8's at around 150-160mph. I bookmarked that turbo gt website, can't wait to see more videos of that thing.

coolhandcountry 08.12.2006 08:55 AM

To get good take off. You need traction. Slicks are not always the answer.
If the car don't transfer no weight to the rear it won't have as good of traction. If the car is streetible made to huge the curves. It is hard to tune the suspension for both curve and street line dragging. I seen a 4 wd toyota pull the front tires off the ground in 2 wd with a set of street tires on it. For me that is impressive. He could run 33 in swampers on it as well.

Sneeck 08.12.2006 09:52 AM

lol, do they need 295 extra horse power to gain 18 mile's an hour? Sorry but that ain't impresive.

coolhandcountry 08.12.2006 11:00 AM

relate it to rc. It takes about 1800 watts to hit 60. To get 70 you have to go alot more to gain 10 mph. The wind resistance gets more.

Sneeck 08.12.2006 11:04 AM

That make's sense. So would you truly use all that horsepower or is it only for smoking tire's faster?
