Where did you get the CF from? Is that thermal fouldable CF you used for the batteryholders?

Dagger Thrasher 10.21.2006 07:22 AM

That looks pretty sweet! The motor mount looks great, and the LST shocks look right at home on there. Nice job... I can't wait to see how she runs. :)

glassdoctor 10.21.2006 09:27 AM

My guess is a shade over 10 lbs at least. :)

That car want a bigger motor in there hee hee.... can you say 1521??? :004:

Serum 10.21.2006 10:48 AM

Someone has got the hots for the 1521! He's grabbing every occasion to mention it.. LOL

Yes I'm keeping the mechanical break unless I get rid of the 2 speed all together. With the 2 speed transmission, the electronic brake will not work.

No the boxes are constructed from sticks of CF angle and epoxied at the corners to create the boxes. In each one I used 1 piece of 2x2x.062, 3 pieces of 1x1x.062 and 4 pieces of .5x.5x.030 for corner braces. If you look at the pictures you can see the corner braces.
All of the CF is from graphiteelegance.com before they closed down for ''vacation''. (I did talk to them though and they said the store should reopen around the end of the month.) They have really great prices on CF. They say it not cosmetic CF, but it looks fine to me, just not as shinny (or expensive) as dragonplate.

Yea, it will probably com in a little over my first estimate.:018: The little extras like the aluminum hinge pin blocks and the LST shocks all add up QUICKLY. I also wasn't planning the mechanical brake back then either. It still shouldn't be bad though. Still lighter than my e-revo anyway.

I think that this motor will be perfect. It should be very fast with this setup. My estimates for speed on the gearing I think I will need and 5s is 40-45 on the center diff and 60+on the 2 speed. and at 10lbs or so this should be more than enough motor to make it get up and go. There aren't a million aftermarket components available for the drive train like the Maxx or Revo. so I gotta keep in mind the limitations of the stock components. The stock stuff seem pretty tough, its all metal w/hefty dogbones and CVDs, and the Diffs look pretty tough as well but its still just stock so more motor might just mean more problems.

OK its done. Well...... Almost. Only thing left is finishing the modified clutch bell for the 2 speed tranny. I should have that done this week though. But I cant wait to test it out so I'm gonna taake it out tomorrow and give it a run on just a single speed. According to my calculations, should be running mid 40's in single speed. Over 60 when 2 speed is finished.

Anyway... Here is the finished product.

That is pretty good man. I like the big rc cars buggies or trucks. I can't wait
to hear how it does.

sjcrss 11.05.2006 09:49 AM

looks great....one suggestion though....better make sure the servo wires...in the wire loom are secured enough so they dont bounce into the gear mesh....I've seen it happen before.......you could make a little plate to hold them up and out of the way of the gear mesh.....just a suggestion is all....but looks good anyways

jhautz 11.05.2006 11:16 AM

Thanks Guys. :) Cant wait to see how it runs either. Gonna take it out this afternoon. I'll bring the camera and try and to capture some vid.

***XLB Video***

Here is about a 5 minute video of the XLB in action. This is literally the maiden voyage other than a 1 minute run around the living room at home.:003: I was expecting to have some setup problems, but surprisingly didn't. The thing ran great. Ran almost an entire pack then the pinion slipped loose and messed up the spur gear :019: so I just quit with it for the day and ran the revo the rest of the afternoon.

All in all a pretty successfull test for a first run. About 25-30 minutes of run in the grass that you see in the video. The grass was definitely not short so it sucked some juice. No heat issues to speak of. The controller got barely warm to the touch, and the motor got slightly hotter but not hot enough that I couldn't hold my hand on it for as long as I wanted to. Could probably use to be geared up a touch to get to motor temps down even lower.

It actually handles really nice also. Felt really solid and planted. This video was also made with only a single speed. When I finish the clutch bell adapter I will try and get some video with the 2 speed working.

The smaller file is 10mb and the larger one is around 24mb. Pretty large files just to warn you if you have a slow connection.
