6s would be satisfactory

crazyjr 10.20.2007 05:47 PM

Good to hear, Finally some real info

rschoi_75 10.20.2007 06:07 PM

most definitely. Can't wait to hear more.

I saw the MMM at the show today. Talked to the Castle guys and it sounds like the MMM will be 6s rated, but the final specs are still not set. The circuts are done, just the case that is still waiting on tooling to be finished. They are targeting a release just before Xmas for the ESC only. I didnt bother with pictures cuz it looked just like the ones linked in the first post. Theyalso confirmed some sort of contract with Neu for the motors that will follow at some time in the future that is still to be determined.

Another cool thing is the Tekin guys also have a 1/8 ESC that they are expecting to be out sometime around February. It should be a 5s rated (possibly 6s to be determined by some ongoing testing) and they had a prototye of it in a milled aluminum case. No pictures unfortunately. The cool thing is they said that they have been running the R1-Pro on 4s in a truggy with the bottom case removed and a fan on it and no issues. Which is amazing to me cuz it was so tiny compared to most other ESCs. It makes the MM look huge. They also said it should run 5s with an external BEC or Rx pack. They also said thay they are considering a HV possibly 8s MT version of their 1/8 esc which would be really awesome.

I personally think I am going to hold off on the MMM and go for the Tekin 1/8 esc. I dont really beleive that Castle will make it by xmas either. They never seem to do wht they say.

EDIT: The Tekin 1/8 esc is based on a 48 FET power board. Thats the same count that the MGMs use and they have no heat issues at all either. Aparently the Tekin guys are useing a different FET than anyone else. They had to commit to a very large volume to get pricing that was reasonable to use them. They were saying that the FETs they are using are super efficient and generate alot less heat than the ones most others are using.

BrianG 10.20.2007 08:06 PM

That's good news. Using many FETs makes sense. Not only does this increase current rating, but also reduces heat simply because the cumulative paralleled Rdson values makes a smaller resistance (less V drop). As long as traces are large enough to handle the current and there is sufficient way to shed the heat that does form, it all sounds good. IMO, a large-ish ESC doesn't bother me as long as it smaller than a Schulze.

If both Tekin and CC produce 6s ESCs at around the same time, the buying decision comes down to comparing current handling, programmability, and smoothness.

If thats the case, I'll let other's make the mistake of buying the wrong ESC, and wait to buy the actual better one.

Unfortunately, it takes several weeks for enough of each type to get out there and working to get any kind of reliability sample.

MTBikerTim 10.21.2007 01:20 AM

Which one to buy? The MMM combo with cc version neu sounds sweet. It's going to be a long wait though.

captain harlock 10.21.2007 07:08 AM

Tekin's aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllll the way......
I've never tried a tekin products befor, but I know that they are one of the oldest companies in the rc industry with experience that puts others to shame. They even left the hobby in the past and they are back again which I believe is a response for all the fans around the world who were calling them back.
I'll wait for the RX8 to come out.

WHAT!!!!! :surprised::gasp: I didn't think, they could do that with a Neu. The motor in question is a 280.00 motor, i know , i got a 1515/2.5d (1700kv)

Duster_360 10.21.2007 03:54 PM

Yeah! The combo and the price blow me away!!

Changes my plans, just going to have to wait some more (sure hope timing is accurate)!!

suicideneil 10.21.2007 04:28 PM

$300.... sold!
Now CC have laid their cards on the table (more or less), and Tekin are close behind, I want to hear more from Traxxas & Novak.
