Mike - Is that a Mamba Maxx esc is see running with 18.5v lipos? If not what esc is that?

RC-Monster Mike 10.31.2007 05:50 PM

Yes...a Mamba Maxx that runs an occasional 5s Lipo. :)

It is typically only tasked with 4s though. :)

How's your pinion and spur holding up? I was just changing the diff fluid in my center diff during the build of my RC8, and I had just assumed the extra Kyosho plastic spurs from my EL8 would fit, but it's not the same dimensions.

I haven't finished searching to see if there's a compatible plastic spur yet.

Lemme know if it's even an issue, thanks.

Just use a hardened pinion gear from the RC-Monster store and you can run the steel spur no problem. The plastic spur is no longer needed since Mike came out with the extra hardedned pinion gears. Many folks have already been using them for a long time and they are holding up very well.

I drilled out a Kyosho spur to fit the RC8 diffs. Was easier than I thought to get it the holes aligned properly so the gear stays centered properly.

Just selll my RC8, realy don't like it. Too much weak spot on it. I've run a Mugen for over a year racing and never broke a part. And on this RC8, i've about 3 hours of run in nitro form and too much breaking parts on it.
I've run fna, Mugen and Kyosho 1/8 buggy and the asociated is too fragile for me.
I'll let a chance to associated because it's the first 1/8 scale buggy they release..... but Losi, when the 8eight was new, don't remember that's a weak buggy like associated:oh:

Maybe just a weak mold in the plastic? The owner of my LHS is a buddy of mine, I'm looking to buy his RC8 from him. It's got high end JR and KO Propo servos and a VZ-B in it. I'm looking to race it and my BL Revo this season, hopefully with good luck. He said he beat it into the ground and it was fine, and he's owned Kyosho, Mugen, etc. He's actually looking to get the O'Donnel buggy.

I just started my RC8 conversion. Waiting for my RCM mount and stuff to show up.

Monday I am picking up a bunch of goodies for the buggy from Golden Horizon and I will get some pics up to show everyone. The new parts aren't on their website yet, I got to see the prototypes. 7075 aluminum, and they have black, titanium and copper anodizing. I want black to match the motor mount. One piece center dif mounts, upper and lower steering plates, hinge pin retainers. I didn't need the tank mounts lol, and next is the steering ackerman.

thanks Mike for all your help through emails. I have been reading here but now can post since I signed up.

What battery trays are you guys running on the RC8? Assuming the RCMonster Tray, if so, how did you mount it up?

pipeous 03.01.2008 10:44 PM

I used good old associated battery cups from the original rc10. $5 for the pair and I just drilled and countersunk screws in the bottom. the front one is actually trimmed a hair and fits under the RCM receiver tray.

We did a demo for the Scouts today. It was a blast doing stuff for 150 kids (my ears are still ringing hehe). Zero issues and we made a jump out of a sheet of plywood and I was the only person willing to take it when it was a 45 degree angle hehe. The Scout leader loved the kids response to the big air and mentioned they liked the crashes the best. I barrel rolled the buggy and the roof hit a steel pole. Body crushed in about 3 inches but it popped back out. I also tried to barrel roll off the bench jump but hit the bench once and pushed it back about 6 inches, no problem... I am surprised nothing broke but you know how it goes when you have a crowd cheering you on.... anyone there was amazed at how tough this buggy is.. the batteries didn't move, motor stayed tight, no bent or broken shock shafts (ala B44 which mine now has XXX4 front shafts ;) )
