Fast5 - Its an Xray XB8EC. You can grab lightly used ones for some great deals right now on Ebay. They arent even a year old cuz the EC was just released last April. Xray is releasing a new buggy in a few weeks and there are lots of folks dumping the ECs and TQs for good prices so they can get the new one. I think they are awesome buggies, infinaltly adjustable and tough as nails.

I know a little off topic for the post, but I have an XB8EC (with e-brake) and think it's an awesome buggy.

There's a good looking XB8EC roller deal here on e-bay right now:

I used a spacer for a while, but it was a hassle to line up the spacer, motor and mounting holes. I glued the spacer to the motor to hold it but the glue never held for long. If you can get Mike to add a few milimeters to his mounts or the heatsink that would be prefect. Another idea I had was making a spacer, and using the unused holes on the motor you could bolt it to the motor. If you countersink the holes and use short screws you should be able to use the extra holes on the motor can to secure the spacer to the motor, basically making it one piece. I will dig out my old spacer and try it out.

auto2 04.05.2008 05:27 PM

i picture a custom built ( by mike) center dif plate that has the ESC in the rear near the motor and a mini servo in the front with a bell crank for the rear brake.

so how much and when can i pick it up? :-) ( im serious)

entjoles 04.07.2008 06:28 PM

ok heres what i have been up to, i got the neu spacer and modded it to clear the rear disk, i also did some dremeling on the rear brake pads, geared 13/48 for now as i am planning on trying my 9l in it(thoughts on this motor??2700kv,4s in a truggy)

got this in the mail today from mike, great idea jeff, and great work mike, i will use this one when i get a neu motor

**shark , your mount is cool, same basic idea, as for using these spacers, it works great and there are extra holes in mikes mount to secure it to the motor and then use 2 screws in the diff mount so it works great

thanks for the ideas guys , im sure this will be a great improvement over motor brakes, now i just need a mmm, and a neu 4s battery

Looks good. I got my brake spacer from Mike on Thursday. I installed it over the weekend, but havent had a chance to post the pictures up. I'll do it tonight. It works just as planned.

Which brake spacer????? Can't find it on Mike store..
Brake spacer or Neu front bell cover????

jhautz 04.07.2008 11:55 PM

David,
They arent in the store yet. I asked mike to make up a special one for me and he put his touches on it and I think he is going to add it to the store soon.

Here are a couple pictures of it and pictures of it installed on my buggy. Works perfect for me.

I installed it on a Neu at first, then I changed my mind and used a Lehner so thats why different motors in the pictures.

If you send Mike a note I'm sure he made a few extras.

Thats a cool little part to allow mechanical brakes. I'm just afraid that the shaft wouldn't stick out far enough for the pinion gear...

jhautz 04.08.2008 12:28 AM

With the Neu motors there is no problem at all, they have unusually long shafts. The Lehners and Feigaos are starting to get to the end of the shaft, but its no problem. The shaft on my 1940 doesn't quite stick out the other side of the pinion gear, but it in there plenty that there should be no problem.

What's_nitro? 04.08.2008 12:35 AM

Could you possibly flip the CD around? Or would that make the spur too close?

I think he us using the tekno clutch thingy on this xray. It would fit fine the other way around, using a std pinion.

What's_nitro? 04.08.2008 12:45 AM

Ahh, I didn't know he had the Tekno clutch thingy.

jhautz 04.08.2008 12:53 AM

I have the CD flipped around cuz I was running the Tekno CLutch in that buggy. I actually just got done flipping it back around to get rid of the clutch and reinstalling the mechanincal brake servos and linkage. Heres a picture on it finished and the dif flipped back around the right way.

Shark413 04.08.2008 01:37 AM

jhautz, that is a sweet setup. Looks like the spacer will work out ok. I am glad this post generated interest and lead to another cool RC-Monster brushless option for those that want to run mech brakes.

entjoles 04.09.2008 08:30 PM

opps!

well i broke my servo case today, dont know if its from the minor flex in the way it was mounted or if it was from the fixed object i hit, but i will using a plate on the bottem of servo for a flat surface secured thru the bottem of the chassis and screwed into axial stand-offs and then mounting the servo to them on the top side, should be more secure and rigid

heres some pics

any thoughts....

i added rear brake only and am using mixing with electric brake . tested it last night and it works great.
with the long brake arm I have tons of leverage.
so far I tried 30 percent in the MM seems good.
when I enter a turn and tap the brake the rear comes around . turn off the rear brake and doing the same thing it pushes to the outside of the turn.

the cool thing is I can turn on and off the third channel while Im racing depending on track .

entjoles 04.12.2008 09:42 PM

V2.0

here is what i came up with to make it more rigid, hope it works, i have one more idea if this fails

i also need to de-ano the stand offs (7x30mm)

i changed to a plastic spur and will try 5s  on my MM/9XL geared 14/46

have you used this spacer with a finned can?? will it fit... i dont think there would be any trouble with it but would like to be 100% on it before i order my neu...

thanks

jhautz 05.09.2008 03:02 AM

No, I havent. But I dont see why it woudnt work. If it will work without mechanical brakes, it should work with this spacer and mechanical brakes. The only reason it wouldnt is if the fins hit something on the chassis or the chassis brace or something, but then it would hit without the spcaer too. Id say your safe.

Shark413 05.22.2008 02:02 AM

I was out for some practice when I noticed I suddenly had no brakes. Checked the buggy and found the horn had sheared off the servo. Hitec Karbonite gear broke in half.

Shark413 05.22.2008 02:05 AM

entjoles, I really like the way you mounted your servo. I already incorparated that idea in my Kysoho E-STRR conversion and I will do the same to my buggy (turn it 90 degrees) and mount on a plate. It really makes access to the motor mount screws a lot easier (for gear mesh adjustment/motor removal).

entjoles 05.22.2008 05:42 PM

thanks

it has worked out good so far, i did break a servo case, but that was w/o the plate on the bottem, or the stand offs:oops:

if i ever do a buggy (808:whistle:) i would do something similar but with a micro servo

and i usually just take out the diff to change gearing and such, but i have been thinking of using a L allen wrench to change it the next time

i really like these axial stand offs, i plan on making a esc. mount with them that is somewhat like the one that comes with RCM crt.5 conv. kit, i just need to get a mamba monster first:rules:

i will be getting some track time this weekend so i will let you know if it doesnt hold up

Shark413 05.23.2008 01:27 PM

I built a servo mount last night and installed it in my Kyosho buggy. The original design I used with the stock servo plate had a lot of flex because it had only three mounting points. The new mount is much stronger, and the best thing is I can remove two screws and the entire brake servo can be swung out of the way for access to the pinion/motor mounts and the brake/servo adjustments are not impacted.

Shark413 05.23.2008 07:08 PM

Here are some shots of my brake servos mounted on my ST-RR and Kanai III.

entjoles 05.23.2008 07:12 PM

looks great, i like those custom mounts, and this is a very sturdy way to mount the brake servo

auto2 05.23.2008 11:56 PM

my version mixed motor brake and mechanical rear brake. been working for months without a problem. with a long lever arm you do not need a full size servo.

entjoles 05.25.2008 10:40 AM

got to run some yesterday, it is sweet, my skills suck but the truck ran great, now i just need to get at least one more battery and get my butt to the track

looks good, thats a good idea as well, the longer linkage looks to give a mech. advantage and being able to turn it on/off is an added benefit, plus it saves a few grams.
