Serum, is there any other way to lock the 1st gear other than using the shaft included in the conversion? I'm not planning to buy the conversion kit.And I dont think i'm going to use the mechanical break. Im in the process of fabricating the motor mount and the battery holder. Please shed some light...

toby 09.14.2005 02:50 PM

i am not buying the conversion either. i do not need reverse, only breaks and forward!

Serum 09.14.2005 03:12 PM

Yes, there is another way, but you need some imagination.. It has been done before..

toby 09.14.2005 03:14 PM

can't you just buy the shaft?

if i keep the 2 spped, what is the y cable? do you have link

Serum 09.14.2005 03:16 PM

I thought the shaft alone is about 50 dollars..

toby 09.14.2005 03:18 PM

WOW, that is quite a bit of money jsut to lock out a gear.

Serum 09.14.2005 04:23 PM

Yeah, i know..

Like i said earlier, i would use the 2speed transmission.. (not because it's cheaper, but because it is a monster with a 2 speed transmission...

toby 09.14.2005 04:29 PM

yeah, what is that y connector for? and do you have link to it.

Serum 09.14.2005 04:34 PM

It just splits the signal from the receiver, to both the speedo and the brake servo.

toby 09.14.2005 04:35 PM

should i just google search the part

toby 09.14.2005 04:47 PM

okay, i found out what a Y- Cable is, but what kind do i get/make? there is lots of different ones

coolhandcountry 09.14.2005 06:04 PM

Here is a link toby.

toby 09.14.2005 06:33 PM

would that be the one i need to get?

coolhandcountry 09.14.2005 06:42 PM

That is what I used to two escs. It will work for the servo and esc as well.

toby 09.14.2005 06:44 PM

okay, i found one on ebay and purchased it. i really wanna get this project rolling and i get an email from atom rc (ordered stuff like last week) and they say "we do not make international orders through our website. email me back and i can make you a special paypal invoice" :(

Serum 09.15.2005 01:30 AM

Mike has got FLM............................................... ...

mothman 09.15.2005 04:36 AM

Hmm.. $50 is better than spending $170 for the whole conversion kit. As I said earlier I'm not looking for speed, so 1st gear is good enough for me. Futhermore, I find its hard to lower the battery holder in order to use the mechanical break..Serum, where can I buy the shaft? Does Mike carry them?

toby 09.15.2005 07:17 AM

see m eon the other hand, i am looking for speed. that is pone of the soul pourposes of this project for me. i know that mike carries FLM but atom has a free exchange if you manage to break or bend a part

mothman 09.15.2005 07:22 AM

Dude no matter where you buy the FLM products, they are lifetime guaranteed!!

toby 09.15.2005 07:35 AM

hmm, intresting. we will see i guess, i only got refunded for my lower arms so maybe they shipped my tvpS? i dunno i really need them tvps to get the truck to start getting back together

superfreak 09.16.2005 06:45 AM

Okay for speed it is better to keep the 2-speed tranny (upgrade that gear to HPI's HD version), buy one of those Y-cable's, make lower batt mounts so can use mechanical brake and set it up so only foward/brake on ESC/motor.

And for fun/any other reason lock out 2nd gear, keep keep foward/brake/reverse on the motor and use the easy conversion kit with standard batt mounts. Is there a big difference in top end speed?

Serum 09.16.2005 11:44 AM

Yes. the difference is rather big.

danhfvcsd 09.16.2005 08:08 PM

So best to use the hd 2speed w/mechanical brake overall then right? I know i want more speed than less of it -lol-

Is reverse hard to throw into the above mix? Just have to add the 'reverse gear module' and a third servo/channel right? Or does it get more complicated than that with placement etc?

Ideally i would like reverse, but it isn't going in if there's more than minor mods that would need to be made, or if it would hinder performance in any way...

Serum 09.17.2005 04:07 AM

You can just throw in the reverse module like you discribed, no problem.

I am not sure about the quality on that reverse module, i never used one.

superfreak 09.19.2005 03:34 AM

I have been running one in my other Savage for over a gallon of fuel with constant use and no issues. Pretty simple to setup and easy to use. Very handy and convenient.

I think I will go with that same setup as you said above as I too am after speed.

Serum...there would be no issues if you ran a 3speed upgraded tranny correct? Just more weight to the rotating mass.

toby 09.19.2005 07:08 AM

today is the day i go and get the motor munt made, any last minute changes i should make? like thinkness?

superfreak 09.20.2005 03:55 AM

Danhfvcsd and myself are getting two of those motor mounts made up but using thicker aluminum and hopefully 7075 T6 grade.

toby 09.20.2005 07:15 AM

i am getting it 8 mm thick, not sure which grade yet though

superfreak 09.21.2005 04:15 AM

5mm 7075 would be good, but thicker 6061 would do fine.

mothman 09.21.2005 04:20 AM

Mine would be 6.3mm thick 6061 Al. I couldnt find a 7075 Al angle. Are you guys going to bend a 7075 sheet to make the angle??

Serum 09.21.2005 12:58 PM

No, that's an L-profile..

6061 is fine..

mothman 09.21.2005 01:03 PM

Ohh its call L-profile then.. I thought they are call "angle" Thats what I bought and sent to the machinist.

I'm actually thinking 8mm 6061 would be good as the space/gap where the carb control arm used to be is 8mm.
