I'll wait for the RPMs until I start to break things - like you said the BL electrics were the first obvious upgrade. All the other stuff is candy to add when things start to break.

Would the RPM arms be the same ones available for the regular Revo?

Sammus 06.16.2008 08:37 AM

I'm pretty sure the front/rear assembly is the same - if that is the case then yes :)

That's what I have started using and am extremely pleased. They cost a little more but in my opinion it's some of the best money I have spent on any of my trucks and gives a lot of performance bang for the buck.

Jeremy1976 06.16.2008 10:54 AM

One 5955 is plenty for the Revo. Two in my opinion is senseless and not needed. Plus the benefit of a single steering servo is the servos are not fighting each other draining your battery.

azjc 06.16.2008 07:21 PM

I have the 5955 also and with the extra torque the 5.5 volts the MMM puts out is a non issue

Hmmm... Now there's an interesting thought - but what's the fun of that?

Sometimes it nice to have the security of a nicely ovengineered setup. :mdr:

If you have read through the manual, they actually have a nice 2-page write-up on how to install the servo horns and steering links and tweak the settings.

VintageMA 06.18.2008 09:10 AM

Noticed that the BEC on the stock ESC is 6volts - maybe that is why things seem a bit slow to me on the MMM.

Regarding gearing - the stock 68T spur is too big. I would like to try out the low CG mount holes, but that would never happen unless you were using a <18T pinion.

Looking into ordering a much smaller spur in the 54T - 58T range (amain has a great selection) and just got a variety of 32P pinions from Mike to experiment with.

bruce750i 06.18.2008 09:39 AM

I'm running something like 21/62 on lower cg mount, with it in the middle of the motor slide, the motor looks nice and low. no run time for testing gearing tho. might fit a 65t spur. 1700kv 6s

Looks like you are geared for just over 40mph with those specs.

More info if you can - What motor and batteries are you running?

When you get a chance to run it let us know runtime and temps and how the performance is.

bruce750i 06.18.2008 12:35 PM

Tekneu 1515 2.5D/f / FP 3700'S sure will post up some temps. Right now I don't want to scratch my new ride by driving it.

Better put on those heavier springs or it'll be on it's lid first turn you take.

I've got one of those on the side waiting, going to try it with a 3D first and go from there.

bruce750i 06.18.2008 04:05 PM

okay i did some driving on 20/58 and took some temps after ten min i got 135 motor/100 esc/95 lipos check out some videos of it http://s300.photobucket.com/albums/n...t=bb8df352.pbr and i scratched it.

Sorry - It had to happen sooner or later.

Nice ride though. What are those tires and wheels? Are they 14mm or 17mm hex?

I am amazed how cheap the Traxxas replacement parts are compared with some of the other name brands.

bruce750i 06.18.2008 04:22 PM

Badland tires on 1/2" offset dish wheels w/ TRX 17mm adapters.

Just got the batteries in the mail today. Here's a few pics of the fit.

They are TP 5000mAh 3S.

The top bulges up a little bit but I think that is because of the spring clip. The doors close smoothly without any pressure and you can still feel that there is airflow over the top of the packs through the vents from front to back.

DRIFT_BUGGY 06.19.2008 12:21 AM

Looks like the perfect battery

bruce750i 06.19.2008 10:54 AM

The manual tells you how to remove those spring clips, but I didn't get what they were saying. With those lipos on 6s the runtime should be awsome. At lunch I'll be trying 50wt tan springs(front) 50wt black springs (back). With the all the tie rods in the inner position.(riding high) Also I'll tighten the slipper a little it got up to 145F yesterday.

Is this the batt?

It the Thunder Power eXtreme V2 5000mAh packs that I got - but since both manufacturers use the Enerland lipo cells - it is essentially the same pack.

VintageMA 06.20.2008 11:38 AM

I got a chance to take the Revo out this morning for a little bit and battery/esc were totally cool (93* batt./108* ESC) but the motor was running pretty hot. After about 8 minutes reading 150* and after 12-13 min it was just over 170*.

I was noticing that the truck seemed to be running MUCH faster than the ~35mph the gearing called for and started to notice that the Talon tires baloon BIG. I think it was definitely more than 1" maybe even 1.5-2" total diameter. Throwing the numbers into the speed calculator gave me speeds of 46 - 52 mph which could explain the heat being generated at that gearing.

I have some smaller pinions and spurs coming in the mail for early next week, so i'll start using 1" ballooning in the calculator and try to go from 68/24 on the gearing to 62/18 which comes closer to the ~35-38 i'm looking for.

Even with the heat problems though, the truck was ballistic :intello: and soooooo smooth (and this was with 80% punch control on the MMM). I dumped about half the batteries in 17-18 minutes of running on asphalt and thick damp grass)

If anyone has some recommendations for a wheel/tire combo that is a good all around wheel (asphalt, grass, loose dirt) I am very interested to hear them.

mkrusedc 06.20.2008 12:20 PM

Thanks for the battery info. Do you have a link handy?

I have a set of Proline Mashers coming in the mail. Alot of people have recommended them as a great all purpose tire. Badlands are also often recommended.

TexasSP 06.20.2008 12:26 PM

Mashers are the best all around tire I have used. I am sure the badlands would be nice too but imagine that any running on pavement will wear them out quickly. I have a set of mashers that are 7 years old and barely have any wear at all running on all types of terrain with about 60% being street if that tells you anything.

VintageMA 06.20.2008 12:38 PM

I would go to rclipos.com for the batteries (use voucher poly4me for a 10% discount).

I have seen a lot of people using the badlands lately - might be worth a try (maybe with some of the medium OFNA foams) - but I have heard that mashers balloon a lot, no?

E-Revonut 06.20.2008 01:59 PM

when plugging figures into the calculator for the E-REVO be aware that the tranny gearing isn't any of the available selections. I don't recall off hand but I beleive it is 33/18. I tried using the same setup I had in my 3905, geared for about 37-38MPH but it made the revo a rocket! Then I looked in the parts lists and found the gears where different. 68/20 with an 8xl is in the 40MPH neighborhood maybe even a touch faster. Running 4s 6000mah maxamps packs and getting about 15 minutes mostly full throttle

kulangflow 06.20.2008 02:15 PM

I thought the E-Revo and E-maxx 3905 used the same diff and tranny, but with a different motor plate. They should have the same gearing from what I've heard.

Am I completely off? Perhaps it's faster because it's lighter or something?

mkrusedc 06.20.2008 02:49 PM

I think you are right use the E-Maxx 3905 setting.

jayjay283 06.20.2008 02:59 PM

the emaxx 3905 and e-revo both have "Overall Drive Ratio 18.67 (stock, out-of-box)" and the same size tires 5.75" according to Traxxas online specs sheet

Cain 06.20.2008 03:23 PM

Good thread. I just got my E-revo in this morning and for the 30 minutes I had to sit down with it, this is what I found if it helps anyone:

- E-revo is appears much longer than 3905 emaxx

- E-revo would benefit from offset rims (at least, thats how it looks).

- TrueRC 2S 8000mah 15C packs will fit the stock trays, just remove that little tensioner clip. After that is removed, didn't notice any major tray flexing. The wiring on them also works well in the trays too. I am wondering if the who limitation of 28mm was what was defined with the tensioner in there. After reading up on some testing between maxamps 20C 8000s and TrueRC 15C 8000s, these TrueRC ones should work very well.

- Proline Harddrive body looks like it will fit.

As for the badland tires, I found they worked very well. I used them as racing tires on the 3905 Emaxx I have, and I was very impressed. Traction was quite predictable and handling was very good. This was against a field of truggies as well, and I didn't feel traction was an issue on a dry track. Wear is very good too. Liked it so much I ordered another set specific for the revo (others mounted on 23mm rims).

For racing, went with LPR Bowties on Rulux rims, offset.

It actually says in the manual that the tranny plus diffs is a 5.22 ratio. So that is what I have been plugging into the calculator along with the pinion and spur settings.

jayjay283 06.20.2008 11:18 PM

yeah it says on page 25 of the manual 5.22 ratio 68 spur 19 pinion, cant see the diff #s though http://www.traxxas.com/PDF-Library/5605_manual.pdf

VintageMA 06.20.2008 11:39 PM

Yeah - 5.22 is the ratio of the diffs and tranny combined. Would be nice to try and figure out the ratios for each, but the parts listing for the ring and pinion gears don't give numbers. Looks like there are some tranny option parts available that will allow you to raise or lower the gearing ratios but I don't really see the point with the variety of pinions and spurs available and it being a one-speed.

E-Revonut 06.21.2008 12:13 AM

the diff ratio is the same as the revo/3905 MAXX. But looking at my book that came with E-REVO with the exploded views and part listings it says the input gear is 18 and the output gear is 33. So I have proven myself wrong! I know it has been discussed in another thread but could the increased speed be the mmm instead of mm? That is the only thing I have changed going from my 3905 to e-revo. I pulled everything from the maxx, sold it and put it on revo but used mmm instead. 3905 I was running 62/20 for decent speed. Same motor, batteries, pinion, and even ran talons on 3905.

VintageMA 07.07.2008 06:04 PM

Quick update - loving this truck.

Got the Badlands MT with Maximizer Bead-Locks (my first set of bead locks - first one was a real pain to get put together, but the other three were a breeze. they are really great - only complaint is that little pebbles can get stuck between the tire and the bead but easy enough to clean out and less of a pain than regluing tires)

Motor of choice for me until I decide to change it up is the MMM with Tekno 1515/2.5d and 18/62 gearing. It's a modest 35mph, but lots of power and tons of fun to run. With the 6S 5000mAh packs I am taking out about 50% in about 15-20 minutes of hard running.

OK - feeling every year of the 34 I will be tomorrow. I spend every day working in a data center and I have never actually made a video to post online.

I'll take the plunge and make one this upcoming weekend - I know just the place too.

kulangflow 07.07.2008 10:09 PM

Happy birthday tomorrow! (I'll be 30 in a week. I (kinda) feel your pain.:-))
