Seems to me that trying to make the software run on a cell phone , palm, balckberry, etc would be a nightmare. I like the idea of an independent hand held programmer to run the software myself.

That could even prove to be a profitable venture for CC...

If it can program the throttle and brake curves then a handheld would be cool for me. I just don't want to lose any functionality. At least have some preset curves or something...

What I would dig is Linux software from CC so I could buy an eee-pc from asus and NOT install XP

wow. i was about to post and say I already have a handheld programmer! I have an eee pc 4G surf(yeah one of the first ones) that I put xp on and castle link. I used to have some velcro on the bottom of it so I could attach it to my sleeve of my left arm and type 1 handed with my right! but it is great to have a laptop with an amazing battery life and still be smaller than the rc car Im programming. and of course if you use some other linux distribution other than the Xandros linux it comes with you could run it through wine. I do that successfully with my mac at home. I have windows xp installed through VMware and it runs castle link without a hitch

snellemin 12.02.2008 06:16 PM

I use a modified mobile thin client laptop for the castlelink, FMA charger, eagletree datalogging, and spreadsheets. It stays on for 6 hours straight. Before the harddrive upgrade, it was 8 hours.

lutach 12.02.2008 06:25 PM

It would be easier for Castle to just make a programmer. A simple LCD graphic display cold be used kind of like the one found on the JR R-1 radio. Just for the ones who needs to mess with the throttle and brake curves. I never messed with it so I don't know how useful it really is.

jhautz 12.02.2008 06:26 PM

LOL.... I use the EEE PC as my portable programmer too.

wallot 12.02.2008 06:29 PM

with programmer you still need to go through lot of steps. with prog. card u set everything at once. mgm cards have upgradable software

+1 BT link with Windows CE sw :) that would be so cool

The ability to change the throttle and brake curves would be great but even if a hand held programmer lacked them being able to adjust punch control, motor timing, and drag brake among a few other things track side without having a laptop would be great I think.

I can actually have one of my clients do a Castle mini PC with Windows XP for a lot cheaper then that, but it would be just way more expensive and a little program box would be nicer lol.

BrianG 12.02.2008 08:11 PM

I didn't exactly shop around. It was just a tongue-in-cheek response.

I'm putting some pictures in photobucket. I'll post them here in a few minutes.

The two top ones would probably be the easiest since they are running a full Win OS, which the link works on. Doesn't need to be powerful to run that one piece of software.

Dadx2mj 12.02.2008 09:30 PM

LOL I thought the whole idea here was to get away with having to take a laptop to the track not getting all to buy one

It is, but the few that would still like to carry a bulky laptop and can spend the extra $$$ might go with that option. I still think a nice program card with a graphic LCD would do the trick. Like I said before, graphic LCDs are not expensive at all.

pasan 12.03.2008 01:40 AM

But programming that graphics LCD would be.

dorji 12.20.2008 01:02 AM

Is there any possibility of this coming out any time soon? Or some kind of programable card that can up load different settings, to a MMM. Being able to hook the card up to the computer and change parameter would be cool to.

I am getting a 4s and a 6s lipo soon and i like to set my l.v.c. a little higher then normal. Also I want to be able to change settings from racing to bashing. My main problem is, my computer is a Mac. I don't get access to a windows based PC to often.

Unsullied_Spy 12.20.2008 07:33 AM

Perhaps have the normal stuff all programmed like normal, and the curves (if you decide to mess with them--I prefer a linear throttle curve, that's why I don't drive nitro) would be programmed into it through your computer, with 2 or 3 different curves you can load in.

I just program mine once and that's all I need. I do have my laptop so re-programming in the field is easy. It's a Dell Inspiron 1525 so the 17" screen makes it a big large, but I don't think it's difficult to bring along.

I wonder if it would be any easier and less expensive to use something like a palm device, iPhone, or iTouch...all that would be required is to write an application to "interpret" the Castle Link program and then make an interface cable that goes from the bottom of the smart device to the controller.

If its marketed correctly and given adequate tech support, I would think other programmers and hobbiest would jump on the band wagon and start developing other applications for all sorts of RC hobbies (planes, helis, trains, boats, cars, etc.). Just my two cents...

I use a mac for all my Castle link programming. the solution I use is VMware fusion with windows XP installed as a virtual machine, but you would need to pay for both pieces of software... I'm not sure if this will take control of USB or not, but a program called darwine lets you run windows apps on a mac without installing a virtual machine or boot camp, and its free!

johnrobholmes 12.20.2008 01:09 PM

To my knowledge, a iphone, palm, or other handheld PC can't host USB yet. Can't use Castle link till they can host usb.

Just got my Monster Combo, and it looks like there is a slot cut out to house a programmer in the box.

lutach 12.20.2008 01:12 PM

Simple like the Asian guys are doing will do. Like I said before, those graphic LCDs are cheap and if anyone needs to change the throttle curve it's the only option I see. I don't bother with the throttle curve anyways and would just like to change other settings without the need of a laptop. Any other device such as a iphone or palm will just get too expensive.

dorji 12.20.2008 03:07 PM

Well I just e-mailed support at CC and asked the same question. I'll post up if I get a response.

This is the castle forum.

The last word from Patrick (on this thread) was on 8/22 where he said he hoped to have the card programmer done in Dec. If we keep talking about it, it will come.

JThiessen 12.20.2008 06:15 PM

It was in the Brushless forum - a mod must have moved it.

dorji 12.20.2008 06:23 PM

I don't think it was moved, this thread was 4 pages long when i posted my reply to it. I also found this thread 3 pages back in this forum

It is okay...Just so long as you don't sit around the house in pee soaked trousers grumbling and griping at people or yelling at the Christmas carolers...or worse yet throwing scalding hot chocolate at them.:whip: Probably not a good idea for you to play dodge ball with the elementary kids either...you might blast them off the court!

I'm fairly certain I admitted to that a few posts ago!!!

suicideneil 10.24.2009 08:50 PM

Necro post ftw!

Any update on the handheld programmer? Or is the MMpro and new motor line up sucking resources up right now?

Simple enough to use a bluetooth why do we need a cable? Just a bluetooth plug into the ESC and software and done.. Any smartphone would handle this just fine.
