i suggest having Linc machine your shaft, they don't call him the pimp for nothin'! If I remember right he tapped a couple holes too. Nice.

No. I have been working on other projects lately. AKA the crawler. I've had Christmas shopping to do, too, so I'm kinda short on cash.

I'm thinking since 5mm/32P pinions are abundant I might just have to find a motor that has a 5mm shaft and a 30mm bolt pattern and is no more than 45mm in diameter... Now, where would I find one of those???

Neat project but I'm confused a little. The hold up is the pinion which you suggest Kershaw has [or could make] but you're baulking at $25 ??

Seems an odd point in the project to get cheap

Get Kershaw to make one or just open a 5mm one out :whip:

I talked to him a while ago. The pinion cannot be made to fit a 6mm shaft; the tooth count is too low. He doesn't have the capability to make a compound bore. I have been working on other projects lately, the Berg 2.2 being one of them. I'll need to buy another suitable motor with a 5mm shaft, then get the pinion for it. I'm still "working" on it but I don't have any further updates.

_paralyzed_ 01.08.2009 11:40 AM

just shave the shaft of the kb. grip it tight with some sandpaper, run it, and check often for fit. people have also used a dremel cut off wheel, ran the motor and moved the wheel up and down the shaft until a pinion fit. people are always afraid to grind on shafts, which perplexes me. they'll launch the motor off a ramp at 60mph, but won't grind that precious shaft! it's just a hunk of metal, it won't even get mad at you!

What's_nitro? 01.08.2009 11:12 PM

I don't want to grind down the shaft only because I'm afraid I'll f**k it up. I will probably opt for a Feigao L can, just because it's an inexpensive choice. If it works out I might upgrade...

FireWire79 01.15.2009 12:56 AM

Just grind the can. Its easy. Push the pinion through a plastic bag, as to keep metal shavings away from the magnets. Turn it on, and grind it down. It really is just a hunk of metal and will be totally fine.

If you are like me and watch Horsepower TV on Saturdays and Sundays, you see people grinding down metal all the time. It is just the way things work when you are trying to make a sweet custom project.

I ordered a pinion from Mike yesterday- (5mm/12T/32p). I hope it isn't too much trouble to get it centered in the gearbox with the motor mount I made. It has a bit of play so I think I'll be fine. If I can get it to mesh properly I'll be "beta testing" with a 600XL and 4s LiPo.

I'll be charging up the battery after work today. My plan is to buy a MM and get it to fit in the case, which will require it to come out of it's case...
