ok I dont have buy this Neu 2700kv I have Buyed one Neu 1515 2.5D 1700kv Motor I plan run it on TrueRC 4s 15c 6400mah and 50t spur & 17t pinion :
http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/1627/setupg.jpg I would run it soon on bigger diameters tires badland MT so I will get 1 or 2mph more ... how do you like this one ? |
Well, the weather is still not cooperating so I decided to go to the Japanese LHS and bought some more stuff for my ST RR. Kyosho parts is definitely cheaper here compared to Amain Hobbies.
Anyway, since I can't run the truggy, I decided to install the following hopups: Top is Fioroni 7075T6 center diff mount and bottom is a pair of Fioroni 7075T6 .5 degree rear hub carriers: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture082.jpg Mounted on the truck: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture083.jpg Almost time to replace the CVD pin: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture084.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...Picture086.jpg |
...George you are HERE? As in Japan? It all makes sense now :D North or south of Tokyo?
...I was just flicking through and considering putting an STR center into the HFX BrimStone...its my build in the Savage section and i have just liost the link... ...Cool though...I had no idea you were so close...Cheers... |

Anyway, I received the Traxxas ESC mount and decided to install one of them on my truggy. I got the mounting plate idea from rootar. I had to move the battery plate half an inch forward to make room for the ESC. Here are some pics.

Buy a CC/Neu motor, all your temp issue's will be gone....
|
medusa 36-60-2000kv on 4s geared for about 40mph should run without any heat issues on my 1/8 truggy st-r ?
|
might get warm. go with a bigger motor.

Shark! Just wondering if you're still running mech brakes on your ST-RR. I tore mine down yesterday, and found that the servo tabs were cracked and they broke off fully. I would imagine it's because I have it mounted side on and the end sticks out into the mud guard.
I had a run with 60% motor brakes, but everything got quite a bit hotter than normal :( Running a 16T pinion, 50T spur and 6s1p LiPo on a Medusa 70mm 1600kv. -Sid |

Cdis, I have not run my ST-RR in a few months but it still has the Mech brakes and I have no issues with them. I am currently running a Losi 8ight-T using motor brakes (Tekin t8 motor, 48/15 gearing, MMM esc) and temps are good. At first I had to get used to the lack of brake bias, but now I can pretty much get around the track at the same speed as I do with my ST-RR. |
Yesterday was nice. The track was still wet but that didn't stop us from running our trucks. The MMM ESCs on both the truggy and buggy stopped working for a while because of water on the track.

Well, I finally was able to solder and install the Tekin truggy combo into my ST RR. I ran it for a about 15 minutes today (just straight passes on asphalt) and I was surprised at the smoothness of it. It seems to be more powerful compared to the Castle/MMM combo because I was able to ride wheelies on the the truggy when normally it would not do it with the Castle combo. I will be changing the center diff oil to about 10-15K later to prevent wheelies. The Tekin motor is 2000Kv (equivalent to Neu 1515 2D).
Here are some pictures of the install. George very nice truggy. One thing I wanted to mention, I am also using a Tekin motor and if you have the motor wires soldered on out towards the back like you do the mass/momentum of the wire can pull the motor solder tabs away from the circuit board. I have rerouted my wires so they are mounted out towards the front of the motor and I have had no issues with the motor solder tabs. http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...3/01050013.jpg Wire pulling the tabs away from the circuit board http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...01050012-1.jpg Rerouted wiring over the motor vs out towards the rear. |
I see what you mean. Thanks for the tip. I'll be rerouting them tonight.

Hey Lito, I got a similar weller soldering irons but my tips don't last. Is there a special way to clean the tips or maybe don't clean the tip like a normal soldering iron? Mine always seem to get a hole on the end of the soldering tip if that makes any sense.
3 years later and my st-r is finally a st-rr. Got the final piece in the other day. The front center universal shaft. Nice work on your truggy! |

I can't say for sure if this gun's tip will last long or not. On my 80W Weller iron, I tin the tip and remove the excess solder by using a wire brush. I brush it lightly prior to putting it away and so far, the tip is still intact. Congrats on converting your ST R to ST RR:party::party::party:. I'll post pics of my re-routed wires tomorrow after I get off of duty from the ship. Can't access photobucket from a gov't computer :neutral:. |
I removed the hardened gears from the Hot Bodies center diff and installed them into the Kyosho cup. I also went with 20K center diff oil but it will still wheelie on demand. I can flip my truggy if I want to. I'm also running a plastic 46T kyosho spur now with a 15T pinion.
I also flipped around the motor wires. Pictures: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...R/DSC07027.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...R/DSC07029.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...R/DSC07030.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...R/DSC07032.jpg |
I was able to run the truggy in our track today for about 2 hours shared with the X2 buggy. The following were the temps after my Neuenergy 4100mah 5S battery hit the LVC:
ST RR temps with Tekin System (10Apr2010) 46/15, 5S, 20K CD oil ESC -113 Motor – 146 Batteries – 98 Ambient Temp – 68F I'll run it again tomorrow afternoon and will be monitoring the motor temp. If it still get to about 146F with about the same ESC and battery temps, I'll replace the pinion with a 16T and go from there. |
George,
Any update on the 16/46 setup? Not sure if you've run it yet??? Also, curious on what your getting for run time with the Neu 4100? I've got hyperion's (4200's) so should compare very very well. Got mine together over the weekend. Getting really close. Hoping by mid week I can get it out for some shake down runs. That thing has got to be an animal (2000kv on 5s)! |
I have not replaced the pinion yet. I might do that for a run this coming weekend. As for the battery runtime, I get about 10 minutes on race mode (racing with the nitro boys) and about 15 minutes on slow running around the track. I pretty much have to change the battery at about the same time they have to refuel their 150 cc truggy tank.

George,
How have your Kyosho plastic spurs held up the brushless setup? I just order a delrin version for my slipperential setup (50T). Steel setup is nice but it's heavy and loud. I've got something else going on with my slipperential runout wise as well which seems to be causing some issues. Going to go plastic and see how it holds up. |
The plastic Kyosho spur is holding up fine. No uneven wear on the tooth profile. The runout is good since I'm using aluminum center diff mounts on both ends. It really helps in making the rotation true.
I just read your thread and I'm glad you're happy with the RX8. I still have to change my pinion to 16T. I had been lazy lately doing other things (running my speed truck). Hope you can get everything sorted out. |
Ya, I'd think based on the mounts in my MBX6T, the runout should be nill but it's something with the slipperential itself I believe. Could be the teflon glide ring. Not sure at this point.
That said, I'm going with the 50T Delrin version Mike is offering now. I don't tend to run the slipperential loose so I don't think heat will be much of an issue. I was just curious if you've seen/had wear/stripping issues with the plastic gears? Does require a slight gear change going from 16 to 17T pinion for the added 4 teeth on the spur. Hoping it works out well... Yes, RX8 combo seems very well suited here. Temps were very well controlled and power was very good for my app. |
