I am not sure about the A123 cells either,as I have not used them yet. I do know that the SuperBrain 989 is a good charger and you can purchase one at a few places. If you do it right you can combine a discount code, and end up picking one up for right near $100. That is a good deal considering what you get. The 989 comes with the charger, instructions, required leads, and a 10 amp power supply all for one price. If you want I do believe that you can also pick up a balancer (LBA10) and the 989 for a fair price right here on RCM.

!!!!my nimh has been acting like a lipo... Super rolling wheels and flip on it's back torque with 45ish MPH speed runs for 25mins. then blurples... what's up with that??

anyone have info or experience with the venom charger?

In my limited experience with Venom- and from what i've seen elsewhere- they are notorious for re-branding cheap Chinese stuff and should be avoided.

I have only run venom 1800 3s lipos in crawlers. And maxamps 2100 packs seem to last longer. I would buy zippy over venom.

Taste tests prove that midgets prefer zippy over venom in an extra tall triple blind comparison. Zippy, the choice of a new generation.

uh... ok??? I'll have to see what costs are but if my LHS has their charger in stock for like 50% off do i snag it and grab zippys?

well, i ended up getting a venom 7-cell nimh 5000mah. Before you call me a flaming retard, i got it for $50, half off the regular price. If it goes boom, i send it back to venom, get the same pack, and sell it for a $50 profit. Not bad for the youngest guy on here eh?

however if you start looking at helis- do stay away from V- take my word on that. That pack should work fine, I would be iffy on the charger if anything- but may be a fine unit.. we all eat one or another in this hobby- and uh not in the good way :lol:

A guy I work with has two venom 5000mAh 6 cell packs and a good friend of mine has a 7 cell 4200mAh and they both seem to work well.

The only first hand experience I have with NiMH vs. Lipo is between 3900mAh6 Cell Orion Rocket Packs and 8 cell 4500mAh Elite NiMH packs and 2S-5S lipo.

I can say that my smallest lipo the MA 4000mAh 2S in just as or nastier in my rustler than any NiMH I have tried.

I can't say exactly how much more, but having batteries that allow the motor to draw 300-500% more current on startup does wonders for performance! :lol:

LIPOS are definitely better, but if you have not gotten this fact yet, then you have not been reading through the RCM threads enough. Then again the best reference any of us can depend on is our own experiences with the R/C products that are available to us. Get yourself a good Lipo pack and let us know how that works out for you.

Lipo is the single most important thing to happen to electric. Brushless is a close second, but IMO without lipo, brushless looses much of its shine.

even brushed motors benefit from lipo. all of my crawlers run lipo, and a few use brushed motors. Huge difference over nimh, especially when startup power is compared!

This is one of the reasons why experienced users dont post on the TRX forums let alone search them... If he had said that to me and "claimed" he had proof I would have exploded in laughter and probably same some things that would get me banned. Yeah, I just went over there yesterday afternoon to check out the new threads, and immediately left. It took all of 157 microseconds to get my temper up due to all the stupid, repetitive, and inane posts. I really have to learn to tolerate stupidity better - the world is just too full of stupid people for a healthy lifestyle otherwise.

Yea we feel your pain BG. It is unfortunate that there are so many stupid ignorant people among us, but that is why nature has a natural selection process to keep the population in check. It is a shame that we have to deal with some of these people on a regular basis until that day comes. I personally did not identify any particular group names or association. I am not predjudiced in any way, and I believe that we all have the right to live in harmony as long as we do not encroach in each others territories of try to force our ideas on one another. There are much better ways to spend our time instead of fighting or arguing over differences. Life is good.

I have alot of stuff, more than most hobby shops. At the beginning of this week I owned 13 chargers. Now I am back down to 8. Who needs 8 lipo chargers you ask??? A guy with 40 lipos, thats who!
